you know, i find this intresting...companies rolling out more and more gears... but at the same time making engines more and more linear. with so many gears now, why bother with a linear engine? make it work best at X-Y rpm, and program the trans to try and keep it there

No really though, why make 11-speed transmissions when we already have infinity-speed transmissions (CVT)? Fast and Furious much? :p

CVTs cant really handle the torque some modern cars put out (yet)

Koenigsegg is also going to have a "fixie". Though... 1500 hp on a single-speed... God Almighty that (gas) pedal must be heavy.

Then they should put their R&D towards making the CVT able to handle more torque then.

Didn't Tesla (and other electric car makers) try to do multiple gears and the torque just ate the gears?
