For your consideration, this E30 M3 which has been the subject of an S54 swap, performed by the owner, who is a friend of the shop, with assistance from one of my guys. For the record, I'm one of those purists who likes these just as they are stock. But, it's not my car and to each their own, so I make no comment regarding the merit of such swaps, because it's not worth arguing about such things on the interwebz. In any case, it's a really nice example, and has been heavily fortified underneath to take the power. And it's a riot to drive. Thought some Opponauts might want to see it, enjoy:

I think I would like this. A lot.

Is the owner holding onto the S14? As long as they have the original engine I'm OK with things like this.

Yes, he is for now. I've offered to buy it for my 2002 if he doesn't.

The only problem I have with major overhauls like this is they are never quite right. They're pretty much teething forever.

And this one is no exception.

S14s are $25,000 engines.

You'd think so, given how much the damn cars are worth now. Cores are $5kish, and bro deals help.

I don't believe you

A real 2.5 Evo engine might be over $20k, and if you want to pay a shop to fully build one with new everything, it'll be over $10k, but they're not too hard to find.

I don't endorse these guys, but prices aren't too far off:
