We are seeing all sorts of candidates coming out of the woodwork to run for this office or that one, or the presidency. Why don't we, as a community, start asking how candidates stand on the issues that matter to the enthusiast population in this fine country? Where do you stand on the 25 year importation law? If every other special interest group in this land can get their questions in front of the public and media's collective mind, why shouldn't we? Petitioning has been fairly strong, but I know there are a ton of passionate people here and across other forums about getting some real change going on. Let's do it Oppo. Let's lead the charge. Between all of us we have a broad spectrum of talent, and a little bit of money, and a voice. It is just a matter of being incessant about keeping this in front of the candidates and getting it into someones platform. Then others will take a stand for or against, and we can make our decisions based on another thing that matters to us. And seriously, who would want to appear to stand strong on opposing a change to the law?
Also, this is not meant to spark political debate on current issues, so keep it on focus here.
Now is the time to start asking a very important question or 2. Chicken tax, 25 year importation law. Go

4 wheels? Motor? Steering wheel? Turn Signals and headlights?
Why can't I drive it again?
How about we all just submit virtual crash test data and eek around this silly issue.

see that would work too

Heh, point out to any enthusiast-friendly Prez or Senate candidates that they probably won't get to drive too often if they win.

No need to change the law, break the law or do anything else that would cause a lawmaker to have to do extra work.
If you're going to go through the trouble of bringing a car in, doing the virtual crash test data shouldn't be anything difficult, there's enough paperwork to choke a small mule anyway...

Gary Johnson would be my pick
He was my vote in 2012 too, he hasn't "officially announced" a campaign for 2016 presidency but he's running. It'll be between him and Paul for the Libertarian Primary I'm guessing.

paul is going for the republican ticket supposedly

oh good, clear path for my man Gary then.
He got the most Presidential votes for a Libertarian candidate in history.
I mean blown away still, but highest in history and I believe the first in an epicly long time over the million mark that didn't have Rep or Dem support.
2012 results:
Dem: 65,918,507
Rep: 60,934,407
Libertarian: 1,275,923
He almost hit 1% of the popular vote.

better than fucking Nader getting them. When will that guy just die already?
Ill have to look into Johnson, but as much as I hate it, I need to cast my vote in one of the major parties to feel like I did something. Until we get rid of this god damned 2 party system in this country

We can start with California, right meow. Got this SEMA update last night:
URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (UPDATE)
California Legislation to Allow Certain Vehicles to Pay Fee Instead of Passing Smog Test to be Considered on April 13, 2015
Legislation (A.B. 550) to allow an owner of a motor vehicle that is subject to the smog check program to pay a $200 smog abatement fee in lieu of passing a smog test will be considered by the Assembly Transportation Committee on Monday, April 13, 2015. Under the bill, the vehicle would have to meet specified criteria in order to qualify. The bill would require the fee to be deposited in the Air Quality Improvement Fund.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Under current law, the smog check program requires inspection of motor vehicles upon initial registration, biennially upon renewal of registration, upon transfer of ownership, and in certain other circumstances. Existing law exempts specified vehicles from inspection, including motor vehicles manufactured prior to the 1976 model-year.
A.B. 550 allows the owner of a motor vehicle that is required to take a smog test to pay a smog abatement fee of $200 if the motor vehicle meets all of the following criteria: Is 30 or more model-years old; was manufactured during or after the 1976 model-year; fails a smog test; and fails a subsequent smog test after necessary repairs were made.
DON'T DELAY! Please contact members of the California Assembly Transportation Committee to voice your opinion of A.B. 550.
Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org . Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

now that is a thing too. Wow cool!

THAT'S WHY WE STILL HAVE 2 PARTIES
you can't get rid of the two party system if intelligent people like you keep voting for the "big 2" while mumbling how they hate 2 parties!
My head is going to explode
Unlike Nader's because he apparently will never die.
![]() 04/09/2015 at 12:51 |

you give me a candidate that is viable as a 3rd party runner and I will vote for him. And it has been too close in the past between the front runners to toss a vote at anyone I have seen come out. I still respect my father for his Perot vote
![]() 04/09/2015 at 13:39 |
|
That's the problem.
Gary Johnson was/is a fantastic 3rd party option, but everyone is afraid to "throw away" their vote.
Last election I didn't want Obama or Romney in the Oval, it's not throwing a way a vote if you're voting for who you believe is the best person for the job!
![]() 04/09/2015 at 13:45 |
|
fantastic yes, viable, not yet. Though I think the climate is shifting away from 2 party mafia slowly
![]() 04/09/2015 at 13:46 |
|
only if I can get people like YOU to vote for the best candidate not for a rep or dem.
By all means, if you feel the best option is in red or blue vote for them. But when their options are bad and you vote anyway - that's part of the problem.
![]() 04/09/2015 at 13:57 |

Also, sorry I get a bit intense about the damn 2 party thing.

it is okay, I get it and I feel pretty much the same way. I just know we are locked into a battle of the biggest pockets. Who the fuck knows what kind of money is going to be pissed away in this election after the donation rule changes
