As someone who has read a little about how they work, and actually dissected a real life carburetor, I'd like to think I'm qualified to answer Calvin's question. But when I actually have to try and explain it to someone... Yup still basically a mystery.

So true it hurts. I had no idea how to tune my Baja bug and that just had a single Solex carb. Some of the easiest to work with.

My Datsun has dual Webers and I have almost no idea what to do with them haha

This really is like the analog vs. digital thing, isn't it? (Carb vs. injection.) Analog circuity (which I was originally trained in) is still like magic to me.
