My dream Frankenstein build is putting the drivetrain of this
into the body of this
Ultimate sleeper status.

I've done quite a bit of research on this recently. I want this baaaaaad and will do questionable things to attain such brilliance. Best part of it all is I'm sure I could get this done for under $10k. Now to find a donor S2K....

Agree - my wife used to have a 92 Coupe 5spd. Awesome car itching for a bit more motor.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 22:40 |

A bit more motor and RWD. In order to get this done I'd need to get a new driveshaft made seeing that their is a 15" gap in length between the two. I can see this being a fun year project. Then when it's all said and done have Matt Farrah take it for a spin and gain mad respect and fandom from the VTEC YO community. Honestly I just want to do RWD burnouts in an Accord. That is by far my favorite body style.

I would take mine in this with a supercharger if you are taking orders yet.

Under 10k? Better triple that estimate
![]() 04/02/2015 at 22:56 |
|
What makes you think I should triple that estimate? All I need to do is find a cheap S2k under $10k, there are plenty out there especially during the winter, take the parts I need and part out the rest. I'll make decent money back just by selling body panels and the like. An Accord of that vintage is quite easy to find cheaply. All I need is rust free body, could care less if it's running or not.

Ahhh I like the way you think. I'll let you know if the supercharger is needed. Nevermind it will be needed and I will dominate the streets track with this awesome homemade creation.

I guess it could be done for $10k if your time isn't worth anything.
Lets start a punch list.
Cut a transmission/driveshaft tunnel.
Fabricate new front crossmember or modify original to accommodate a longitudinal engine.
Adapt HVAC system to new motor.
Fabricate mounts for the S2k transmission, rear suspension and diff.
What am I forgetting?
![]() 04/02/2015 at 23:34 |
|
Plus this engine and drive train,
And the engine from this,
Will go in this,
http://theshadetree.kinja.com/the-sho-time-c…
With the transmission from one of these.
Already have the SHO and the Capri. I'm half way there! Any one have a cheap fox body and a 5 speed ranger?

Now you're getting the picture. Honestly this wouldn't even have A/C because race car. On second thought if it fits I'll put it in, if not it won't be the end of the world. And yes this would definitely take a while that's why I'm giving it one year at the bare minimum. Fortunately I have friends that are very Honda tech savvy and would be willing to help. I'm talking about complete motor and trans swaps in a few hours kinda savvy.

s2k motor would go nicely with an NA miata methinks
![]() 04/02/2015 at 23:45 |
|
It's been done before. And at that point I might as well keep it in the S2K. I need to do something that's daring and original.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 23:48 |

I think you can get your parts from any junkyard all for under $2k. Now have fun shoehorning that 5l into the Taurus. In the case of my swap the orginal Accord motor is actually .2l larger. Go figure.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 23:55 |
|
Really? I know nothing about Honda at all, what makes the S2K mill so special?
As for the 5L into the Taurus, it would be a VERY tight fit, front to back specifically. Might have to cut the fire wall. The SHO V6 into the Capri on the other hand... Cut out bits of the engine harness I don't need, find an M5OD-R1 5 speed from an '88-'96 Ranger, spin the intake manifold round, and drop that thing in there. Thats what that SHO was supposed to be for, but between falling in love with that car and not being able to find a transmission, I'm putting the Taurus on the road until it dies.

Longitudinal layout. 240hp from a naturally aspirated 2l 4cyl and a 9000RPM redline. That's the short version.
I lie to you not I used to be obsessed with the idea of also doing that Foxbody conversion but into my 1990 Escort GT.
Looked like this but where you see blue it was burgundy.
![]() 04/03/2015 at 00:21 |

At the time, it had the most HP/liter of any naturally aspirated engine, helped by that 9k redline. The later years they upped the displacement and had to drop the rev limit because of how fast the pistons were moving through the deeper cylinder (to something still crazy like 8500)
![]() 04/03/2015 at 00:32 |

Thats actually similar to the SHO V6. It was developed by Yamaha in the late eighties for a mid engined sports car Ford wanted to build, but the car got axed, leaving Ford with an engine with a capability to spin to 10000 rpm, guaranteed by Yamaha. So they said, fuckit, Taurus. But the pegged it down to 7000 rpm, because they couldn't figure out a way to keep serpentine belts on it.
Still pretty impressive for a 3 litre V6.

I love your idea, here's my recommendation.
Buy an S2k that runs and drives. Have a blast in it.
Buy an Accord shell, it needs to be a wagon.
Mock up the swap using measurements from your two cars.
Buy a wrecked S2k.
Do the swap with wrecked S2k parts.
Sell the 1st S2k.

You could always get an F2K kit from InlinePro that mates the S2000 engine to the K-series gearbox and drop that sucker into a Civic. Break out a welder, though.

Don't forget that you need to have a new driveshaft fabricated. Then you need to figure out the rear subframe and suspension. You'll want to use a more robust pumpkin if you are going with any power adders. Really, just look up builds from v8 miata conversions, they have significantly cheaper donors and motors, yet they routinely run into the mid teens in build cost. Unless you get really lucky and can source all the parts cheap enough you are looking at around a $20-40k build depending upon your own welding and fabrication skills. Especially since no one has done this build before.

haha wiring the whole mess, painting and sealing all of the fab work so it didn't rust and fabricating an entire interior unless you want it race spec! Finding a place for the gas tank and buying a race gas tank for the new found spot. Thanks for posting this. guy op is hiliarious/delirious. Your post is spot on.
Oh yeah having 1000 free hours to do all this or do it on weekends until 2025. Then replace all the rubber because by then it'd be vulcanized!!

but those are like Legos, you're talking about mixing Legos and mega bloks.

This is true. I was just letting it be known that they aren't just you average buddies that may be just as clueless as you are, they are the type that know how to get things done. They also have tools and last I heard a repair shop. That's good because a lift is definitely needed for some of this work.
![]() 04/03/2015 at 10:03 |

you're joking right? Last you heard they have a shop? You make me laugh. If you had a clue you'd save your money and not waste it in this money pit of an idea. I've been doing motor swaps, engine rebuilds and race car fabrication for 15 years. I have built wire harnesses and 6.0 powerstrokes for countless 1000hp diesel fords and currently am building my focus SVT track car as well as building my focus st for Autocross. I hope your friends know better than you and steer their clueless friend away from a dumb idea. No wait. I'd rather you try this project have fun doing burnouts with your na 2.0. Nice torque curve.

All of these random "facts" about you and I'm unimpressed. What a shame. Was hoping people on oppo would be more sensible than this but I must remember all people aren't the same. There are rotten apples in every bunch. Everything doesn't need a turbo or a V8. Some things are simply about the NA experience but you wouldn't seem to understand that so why waste my breath. No matter good luck on your builds and hope you do well with your AutoX season.

just saying, you called me clueless and I have a clue. I understand your dream and its a fun one but leave it at that, driving and enjoying an s2000 is a very sensible decision, but it would be a money pit to go in another direction, without the engineering know how and dedicated space and time it'd ruin your bank account and likely your dream. In fact I'd love to see the swap, it's just so very ambitious. I didn't mean to come off as a jerk. I've relyed on other people and they don't without a bunch of money stay as enthusiastic as you do, after responding earlier, I read the thread on the guy who put the corvette drivetrain in a civic and it was doable so by all means go for it. I by no means am a stuff an ls or turbo in it kinda guy, my SVT is stock motor gutted with a race clutch and flywheel, lsd, konis, race springs poly bushings and brake work. I stopped there to keep it reasonable and played off its strengths. The accord is a handsome car and would showcase a prelude h22 very nicely and s2ks don't do good burnouts. I really just think you can have more fun in an s2000 tuned to the gills if you can afford one. Final statement do what you want, have fun, expect comments. Shouldn't have called you delusional that was harsh, ambitious is the word. Good luck thank you for best wishes in autox, I'm about to go go-karting.

Ahhhh figured their must have been a misunderstanding somewhere. When I said "these aren't your average buddies that may be just as clueless as you are are" that wasn't a dig towards you in any manner. I was saying that in a general sense pointed towards nobody in particular. I was just saying that they are a very informed group that aren't the average buddies that possibly no as little as their friend they're trying to help.
I'm glad we got that cleared up and out the way. Besides this is just a dream build for the moment. If I had the spare change to do it I would but I currently don't. Also I plan on getting an S2000 by the end of the year so I'm sure it'll scratch the VTEC itch I have. From there I'll decide if I even want to move along with the project in the first place.

They drive really nice if you have never driven one, my buddy had one I did a stereo install. He had an early model with the f20 and spinning it to 9000 is very fun.
