Hey Oppo, dump all of your knowledge of early-to-mid-2000s Volvos upon my quiveringly anticipant loins! Or something. Essentially, the parents are considering getting an S80 or S60 from the early-to-mid-2000s and I have not the knowledge to inform them of things to be aware of. Too bad my mom doesn't want another Saab wagon...
Thanks in advance!

I've heard the transmissions arent the strongest things out there.
I can personally
recommend a 01-03 V/S40

Avoid the '99-05 S80's with the 4-speed auto. They were notoriously bad, which is no real surprise.

The S40/V40 is awesome! I've always liked those cars from some reason

c30 preface lifts are good fun and cheap, I have owned a 05 v70r for a while and it's been really reliable.
S80's are good fun with the v8, they are a mustang engine and trans as far as I remember so repair cost shouldn't be to outrageous

Probably not a Mustang trans, as the S80's V8 was transverse mounted.

Volvo 4.4L (B8444s) V8 is Volvo. Built by Yamaha, sharing some telling dimensions with the SHO V8, but not Mustang at all.

As others have mentioned, transmissions are not a strong point. Beyond that, avoid the T6, they're a pain in the ass & age poorly. The base 2.9 is pretty hard to kill, if not very good at anything. The turbo 5s are good all around, by far the best engines Volvo has done in the last 10-20 years.
Otherwise it's mostly basic used car stuff.

The transmission hasn't been replaced? You'll need to replace it
