So I'm trying to change my display name. However, Kinja is not allowing me to do so, rejecting the username that I have had since I signed up. What the muddahell?

Just noticed the Rihanna tab at the top, guess my room mate has been at it again.

It's their way of saying your screen name is too long.

I wonder if there's some type of auto-correct taking place in your browser changing the type of the dash (i.e. to a unicode character). That could definitely do it. Try sanitizing it in Notepad.

It does say 'spaces not allowed' although I see many spaces used elsewhere. Maybe try an underscore or dash in place of the spaces?

Oddly enough even without the long screen name it still rejects my current settings.

Spaces are allowed in the screen name, not in the username. However, my screen name is simply too long.

Don't use a % sign in your name.

It uses your username as part of URL strings and it jacks with the system .

We are grateful that you've found this bug and wrote about it! It's now fixed!

The displayName limit was not correctly evaluated to 63 chars but it's now fixed - you can use the desired name again as long as it's not longer than 63 chars
