Always wanted a NSX but they are too rare and expensive ? Well, I may have some good news for you because you can now get a 2000 Accord Coupe V6 for the price of a floral couch.
Welcome to Forgotten Classics's Easter special !
As demonstrated in the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the goal of this series of essays is be to bring cars that are getting no love back in the limelight. FC is also a thorough analysis of why such cars remained obscure and never got the praise they deserved.
Ayrton Senna is known for being the best racing driver ever, but he was also a car enthusiast and a very knowledgeable mechanic. Engineers enjoyed working with him because he made them better. It's not surprising that when Honda decided to make a supercar, they appointed the McLaren-Honda driver as Chief of Performance for the project.
Pop-ups headlights, Targa roof, high-revving V6, 6 speed manual gearbox, distinctive tail lights, the Brazilian delivered. The car was a masterpiece of technology and came with an immense dose of soul, passion and charisma. Unfortunately, perfection isn't cheap and the NSX was out of reach to most enthusiasts, and it's still true today. Fortunately, it was before Honda lost its ways and Honda was still caring about enthusiasts and applied the NSX recipe to a much more affordable automobile, the Accord coupe.
Same high-revving V6, same 6-speed transmisson and the same fancy tailghts, the 2000 Accord Coupe V6 literally the NSX Jr.
75% of the mechanical components, 100% of the emotions and 25% of the price.
Simply put, you can get a car developed by the most successful racing driver ever for the price of something as trivial as a brand new couch, and it even comes with leather ! The interior of the Accord Coupe V6 captured all the involvement of the NSX cock pit, with more commodities and comfort for the average commuting Joes (and Janes).
The Honda Accord V6, although a bit watered down, still exist today, but it lost all the Ayrton Senna's magic touch. Let's hope that Honda can do it again now that they are once again partnered with McLaren in F1 and have the actual best F1 driver on their payroll.
Meanwhile, don't miss out on the opportunity to acquire on of these early 2000's Honda Accord Coupe V6, it's still the cheapest way to live the NSX experience.

Wrong, this is the best Accord Coupe.

I disagree, that generation of Accord was a huge let down. Honda's malaise era.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 11:45 |

Nope. 2015 Accord coupe owns all.

Lotus Elise Jr?

Dude, that's a Mustang.

1) That is an abysmally and amazingly awful couch and I can't in good conscience believe that any reputable furniture retailer would willfully advertise and sell it at any price.
B) Nice photoshop skills. I was convinced that Senna was filling tires on an Accord.

Say what you will, but it's pretty fun to drive.

im replying to you because I detest this garbage system of oppositelock where I cannot reply to posts only comments. This post is a pile of garbage. not only did neither of those cars pictured have 6 speed gearboxes but they had different engines. very different. The only thing remotely similar is the tail lights and body maybe if you squint. They deliver very different driving experiences and you should feel bad for leading people to believe they are at all similar. but I suppose most of oppositelock is smart like me and knows better anyway
![]() 04/02/2015 at 11:51 |

Pretty sure that's the 2017 RX7 concept, dude.

No, this is a Mustang. You can tell from the iconic upside-down-galoping-horse on the front grill.
Though it's also red so it might be a Lambo, dude. Pretty sure it's not, though.

98-02 Accord Coupe was only available with a pretty terrible 4 speed auto. You're thinking of the 03-07. How do you get onto the front page with so many factual errors?
![]() 04/02/2015 at 12:03 |

I see you've played Knifey-Spoony before!
![]() 04/02/2015 at 12:03 |

NSX only got a 6-speed in 97, and the targa version was only available from 95 on.

Nah, that's the new Tacoma.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 12:07 |

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. For a long time (before Honda jumped the shark/Tiburon): If you want the big engine you need to take the automatic transmission.

red turn signals :(

You know today is April 2 , right?
Same high-revving V6, same 6-speed transmisson
The 1998-2002 Accord Coupe V6 has the J30A1 3.0 liter V6 with SOHC VTEC, a 6300 RPM redline, and 200 hp. It was only available with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The 1991-1996 NSX had the C30A 3.0 liter V6 with DOHC VTEC, a variable-length intake manifold, titanium connecting rods, an 8000 RPM redline (7500 on the automatic), and 270 hp. It came with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
In 1997-2005 manual-transmission NSX was updated to the C32B 3.2 liter V6 with DOHC VTEC, a variable-length intake manifold, titanium connecting rods, an 8000 RPM redline, and 290 hp. The manual switched to a 6-speed, and the automatic carried over with the same engine and 4-speed transmission as before.

The line "Pop-ups headlights, Targa roof, high-revving V6, 6 speed manual gearbox, distinctive tail lights, the Brazilian delivered" suggests that Senna was responsible for these later enhancements, which is unlikely given that he had tragically passed by the time they were added.
Also, the NSX had the C engine and Accord V6 had the J engine, so not the same.

Engine too big. Needs more 1.8l goodness to be Elise Jr.
May I present to you La Corolla
![]() 04/02/2015 at 12:42 |

Nah, that was the 1ZZ. To get the 2ZZ, you're going to have to move upmarket to something like the Vibe GT, which is also a Lotus.

You are very correct. The generation discussed here had a gigantic Achilles heel for all Honda fanboys...a 4 speed automatic only. The engine was indeed sweet and sounded great, but it was put through a notoriously weak and failure-prone slushbox.
The Accord pictured here, available 2003-2007, had an even lustier engine and was available with the 6 speed manual it deserved. The 6-6 as it is known is still a rare find today, and usually are either very expensive or scooped up very quickly. The Accord generation you posted, in V6/6M form is an infinitely sexier car than the slushbox equipped Accord featured in this article.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 13:15 |
|
While the Accord you posted about in I4/5M was a great car, the Accord posted was let down by its shite transmission. Every V6 Accord since has been offered with a 6M. While Accords in general may have gone downhill as far as V6 Coupe versions are concerned, this 98-02 generation is the Malaise.

Did you seriously thought the 25K car had the exact same engine as the 125K car ?
Come on ...

Let's hope that Honda can do it again now that they are once again partnered with McLaren in F1 and have the actual best F1 driver on their payroll.
There's a very good chance that the 2000 Accord Coupe V6 might actually be quicker than the MP4-30.

Well, with this stuff written, wouldn't the wise and Oppo thing to do be: To find the accord and put the engine where the backs seats are?!!? Budget NSX!? Honda Badge like in Japan!! CHEAP! EVERYONE WINS AND THE SPIRIT OF SENNA LIVES ON IN A MORE TRUE FORM FOR US COMMON FOLK! :P
![]() 04/02/2015 at 13:43 |

I support this !
![]() 04/02/2015 at 13:44 |

They're different engines with different bore and stroke, 60 degree v 90 degree, SOHC v DOHC, different materials.
The only similarity is that they have 6 cylinders and are made by Honda, so by the same token, you could argue the Saturn Vue had a Honda NSX engine.
Which is totally false.

no not really at all try again.

You wouldn't expect a small British company to be so prolific or build such quality, but somehow they do. I think that they're just being modest. Their older models were quite good as well.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 13:45 |

yes because you implied they did. These cars are nothing alike

the nsx cost 60k when it came out and topped out at 90k in 2004. PLEASE STOP TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS. jesus Christ dude do some fucking research you know absolutely nothing about either of these cars!

You need to get better at reading and get off your high horse. It seems like you want to start a kerfuffle.
Back to the engine, I said 75% similar.

Preeeetty sure that's an MR2, dude.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 14:45 |

it isn't even 50% similar. You pulled that number out of your ass like the rest of this post. I enjoy seeing others call you out on your bullshit.

I respect your opinion and I hope you have a great Easter week-end.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 14:56 |

really that's gonna be your excuse? you meant Canadian prices? youre an absolute joke. not only did it not cost that when the car came out in 1991 which this post is directed at but it didn't cost that when this accord coupe came out so the price in 2005 really isn't relevant here when you try to compare it to the 25k accord price tag
![]() 04/02/2015 at 15:11 |
|
No, I didn't think they had the exact same engine. I knew for a fact they were quite different. They're not 50-75% similar as you were saying below. Aside from the fact that they're both Honda V6 engines of similar displacement, they hardly share any parts at all. I wasn't quite sure if your post was meant as tongue-in-cheek or not, so I posted the differences.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 15:50 |

No.

Previously on oppositelock...
There was a series of posts and jokes about how the new mustang looks a lot like the old Accord V6 coupe. The idea was so ridiculous that it's become an ongoing joke.
Along with the fact that red wedge cars are also triumph TR7s, and all fancy cars are probably a lambo, dude.

Wish it were true but those auto transmissions for the V6s were plagued with problems. Though there are swaps for the 6spd in the TLs and CLs into these year Accords. Dont think its worth it price wise but these were one of the best looking coupes at the time.
Would have even looked better if we got Europe's nose and our tail

But it's a day after April Fools?!??!?!?!?!?!?

![]() 04/02/2015 at 16:07 |

You are correct. I owned a 2001 Honda Accord V6 coupe. That year it ONLY comes in a 4 speed auto which was CRAP. The transmission was recalled after 20K miles. You Accord V6 owners will love to tell you about that experience. The shifter would get stuck at times and it was a nightmare, flashing engine lights and all. All that with a crappy 25 mpg gas mileage. I had a accident it in where NONE of the airbags deflated and I almost died in that car. Got rid of it in 2007 and I never bought a HONDA again! I received an airbag recall letter from them in 2010 saying to bring my Honda in for the airbag recall. I told them, NO THANKS! I don't buy HONDAS NO MORE!

I have an 03 and it is a lemon..the xmission went out and it was a different gear than the recall aso they did not cover it, The lights on the radio went out (again recall) but mine was 4000 miles and 6 months older than the recall covered. The A/C fails EVERY YEAR!. It has engine problems and the door locks and windows both have failed.

this kid made this post full of bs lies facts and figures and tried to sell a car that doesnt even exist in manual form and doesnt even have the same engine as the nsx which doesnt even drive like an nsx. He pulled it all out of his ass like all his posts. My favorite is this one:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
where he doesnt even explain what the question is but rather prides the mx-6 on being sharp and different while trashing the fiesta st for still looking like an econobox while the mx6 gt has virtually no appearance tweaks over the regular mx-6 save for some alloys. He also thinks the x1 is the last true proper bmw......
![]() 04/02/2015 at 19:36 |

But honestly your getting mad over a honda accord, ok sure he has some questionable opinions but that's ok. Not everyone is going to like them, so either don't comment or don't be a dick when your you are voicing your opinion.
![]() 04/02/2015 at 19:45 |

ok remind me to make a story about the little known rav-4 that toyota briefly made with the 2jz engine and 6 speed gearbox and how it is the original hot suv and better than an x5 M except that the car doesnt exist. It doesnt matter tho cuz ill throw in lots of nice pictures and convince everyone to buy something that doesnt exist. Stop defending his lazy journalism

Came here to watch Honda nerds argue over engine codes nobody cares about. Learned the NSX used a 90 degree V6. Still don't care because 2xx horsepower is a waste of the chassis, but mind blown.
Does anyone besides Audi offer one? I don't even think GM does any more.

Ralf Shumacher drove for Toyota, and he's 90% Michael Shumacher. And what do the Toyota F1 car and a Camry have in common? Both are petrol powered piston engines designed by Toyota, so that's like 50%+ of the battle right there. So for less than the price of a single semester of college, you can drive 40%+ of a Michael Shumacher raced Formula 1 car!
Oh, April Fools... Unless you were serious, then no. A first generation 4AGE powered MR2 is as close to a budget NSX as one can realistically get.
