Random questions for you:
Some friends and I are planning a trip to the Grand Prix this year. Are the events on the thursday worth attending? I think the pits open to the public at 9 so we'd have to be in Montreal Wednesday night.
How bad is traffic in and around the city right after the race? We're trying to decide whether to leave the city that afternoon/night or just wait till Monday.

pits are opened on Thursday. You don't get there by car, you take the metro.
Exit Parc Jean-drapeau, yellow line.
Super easy
Ask me for more advice

Oh yeah, Metro is a requirement, we're planning on renting an apartment somewhere near a Metro stip so getting away from the circuit will be busy but doable. I'm just wondering about traffic on major roads out of the city beyond that. If I can expect to be stuck in gridlock we'll wait until Monday to drive back to Ontario. If it's not too bad, we'll go back Sunday evening and I'll go back to work Monday.
Are there any other events or sights around the city that we should try to attend/see while we're there?

But washing by hand can be so difficult. Like for this guy...
Poor, pathetic fool.

You'll be fine, traffic is ok on the weekend, getting out the city should not be a problem.
Getting out of Notre-Dame island is a huge pain, stay at the track after the race and chill while people are packing up in the metro.
Avoid staying on the south shore, bridges are always partially closed during w/e for repairs and it's boring.
There's always plenty of things to do in Montreal, depends what you like. Bars are closing at 3AM and legal age for drinking is 18.
In the downtown area, there's a Grand Prix fest on Crescent street, very douchebaggy however. Old Montreal is nice to hang out, St-Laurent street is mostly where it's at, but I've been out of the party scene for a while.
Plenty of nice titty bars, too.
