...as neither will be replaced by a new generation, after the lifecycle of the current models end.
Good job Johan.
The ELR will also be a rare car. It sold just 1310 units in 2014 and 311 this year.

Good. The XTS is gross.

I like it, i just wish there was a stick shift available....and since so few were made, look for it to be a future classic.

Damn over 1000 people actually bought an ELR?

A new ELR with a red bow on it, is a good way to take your wife's mind off the fact that the maid's kid looks a lot like you.

Figured the XTS was gonna get the killshot after the CT6 reveal.

I want an ELR.

Not necessarily, Lexus stubbornly keeps the ES, even if the IS and GS are better cars.

Sad, solely because ELR is such a compelling design.
If it had been HIGHER performance than Volt, rather than lower... and had a V-model akin to the Tesla Model S P85D, maybe then it would have been compelling other than just aesthetically.
OwnStar is a deal-breaker for me, and I am un-convinced on the premise of loading an accident-vulnerable vehicle with lithium batteries, but i would love to own a car that good looking.
I kind of wish someone else would just copy that design for a gas-powered AWD sport-lux coupe.
XTS is a goner, and probably now mostly redundant with the purpose for CT6.

It makes sense to keep the ES though. We don't like it, but it does sell well, and it's probably got great margins for Toyota given that it's just a re-skin.
The CT6 does everything the XTS does now with a better chassis, a better platform to build on and compete with, and helps improve the image of the brand while the XTS - a re-skin that appeals to only one specific kind of buyer - just degrades it. The CT6 is the XTS but better in every way that matters. That's why the XTS gets the axe in almost all scenarios.

The XTS is FWD. It needs to die.

There's a guy that lives near me that just bought an ELR at the end of 2015. It's literally the only one I've ever seen, but I see it about 1x/week. (For comparison, here in SF I see basically ever other hybrid or electric car all the freakin' time.) Had no idea it was that rare.

Woo. Snatch up an ELR on the cheap.
