They started us with oxy acetylene torches. I always wanted to learn how to use onw because I want to custom weld a rollcage for an RC rock racer, King Of The Hammers style!
I know it's not great, but it's my first time, shut up.

Good stuff. Keep it up!

Now where have I heard that before...?

You are catching on. A little advice. Wait to build that cage until after they teach you how to TIG weld.

Its worth it when you finally learn. I love welding. Its one of my zen activities that really calms me down.

Well by the time I'm ready to buy my own welding equipment, I'll have learned all types of welding!

It was really fun indeed.

Welding is like recreation/therapy to me. I never get tired of doing it. I just wish I had more stuff to weld.

That looks pretty good for your first time...There isn't a hole the size of a quarter. lol
Are you attending a welding school?

Hey, umm.... Want to help me build a roll cage?

No, I'm taking a welding class at my university.

Would do. I don't have a TIG welder though. I only have a MIG and a Gas weld/cut outfit.

Right on. Welding is a great skill to have, especially if you intend on working on cars... Just wait until you try welding aluminum with a TIG machine. Creating a "roll of dimes" rather than a gaping hole is pretty satisfying.

What is the class called? I'd like to do something like this (if possible) just to learn how, but I'm afraid our engineering department has it listed under some ridiculous nonsensical title.

Ah well that's not obfuscatory at all haha

The day you learn weld you become man.

Not bad for your first time!
Though I don't recommend using oxy-acetylene to weld up a cage. MIG would be better, but TIG would be best.
