How do we feel about the new Acura ILX?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I'm somewhat intrigued by this car. All the buff books are saying it handles, and the new 2.4 direct inject engine isn't even in the same league as the previous engine. It also manages to look nothing like a Civic, aside from having four doors and being more or less the same size.

For $30k, it seems like it would be a viable daily driver with some "value added" features that would appeal to someone who once drove the piss out of a '94 Integra GSR, but is now 40 with two kids.

Has anyone bought one or driven one? Just curious about impressions.

You know, I'm a car guy (duh, right) and if I have to go to the website to figure out where this car fits in the range because the letters I-L-X mean nothing to me...then there is a problem. This is the Civic+ right?

They got rid of the manual, their advertisements suck, and they got rid of the manual. Oh, and it's just a hella expensive Civic, with less touch screens.

it looks nice, but its a glorified civic. the only one id want would be the SI based one with a manual because it isnt like a dumb looking si. Otherwise just get a civic ex or exl

I already see people tearing this car a new one in the comments but I'm going to take the other side of this. I like it and yes I've driven one.

It's more than a Civic+ in my books. Personally, I've been considering purchasing one. It has enough luxury features to feel like a nice car and is a fun to drive on a daily basis. Would I track day it? no but for someone who wants something under the radar, modest but still luxurious I think it's a great option. I call it a Zuckerberg car, just enough luxury features without going full on luxury.

If I show up to a valet with it, no I won't get the treatment that I would in say an A4 or an Escalade but that's the point.

I don't think this will do anything to attract the young-ins to the brand in the way that ze Germans are with their $30k offerings, specifically the A3 and the CLA.

The thing just looks kinda "meh". Acuras as a whole are just kinda "meh" in the same way, now that the brand image has been ruined by the ugly redesign of the TL a few yrs ago. It's like they tried to do a style merger between the TL beak and a 2001 Civic, and this is what they came up with.

Compare it to a CLA or an A3, which look fabulous. Both of them are selling very well. Time will tell how the ILX does, my prediction is poor.

You wont get thee raw sporty feeling of an old integra in an ILX. My personal opinion is buy the civic for less money with nearly the same features. That being said, drive it. It's not a bad car, just not a great car. I would recommend test some of the competitors in that price range. There is the GTI in the price range which is a great car. One unsung hero is the Buick Verano Turbo. It offers a little more power and a little more comfort to boot. Autoblog did a comparison a while ago. I know weird to recommend testing a Buick. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/12/201…

Acura was smart to ditch the base engine that was shared with the Civic. Now the only engine choice is the 2.4 from the Civic Si, so it's basically a lux-ified and better looking Civic Si with an 8-speed DCT, and lacking the Si's LSD. I'm not sure that quite appeals to me for the price, but overall it's a much better package than it had been.

Love WRXs as an owner, but its kinda hard to compare an ILX to one. The WRX is raw utility and sporty-ness verse comfort and utility with a mix of sporty-ness.

It's a nicer Civic Si, I personally like both the exterior and interior more than ze Germans' offerings. I also love the way the Civic Si drives (Drove one 245+ miles for a dealer trade)

In all honesty, the civic Si on sale right now is probably as "luxurious" if not more than the old integra GSR while also being equipped with a good engine and transmission but a non-spine shattering ride. The acura rides like a luxury car - composed, but not hurried. More driving feel than a buick verano....but that's like saying a certain food has more flavor than a saltine.

Personally, I think it's acrua's attempt at copying buick. Get a slightly used TSX before you get an ILX new. That'd be what I do.

Looked at them yesterday (online, not in person). It's a really sharp looking car.

Completely disregarding the A3, it'd make a great lease for someone who fears euro reliability but still wants to look professional.

Why do people here talk about valets and showing up to the valet? Man, fuck valets. I just don't want the asshole to ding my car and would prefer if they didn't drive it at all, fuck what they think about the car I pull up in.

My GF had a 2012, just got a 2015, and is super mad she didn't get the 2016. I always just called it a "Civic in red lipstick" but after seeing the 2016...I have to admit it's a pretty nice car. Her 2015 isn't bad to drive, but it feels very girly to me. I just can't disassociate the car from her.

I think you misread what I wrote. The point isn't what the valet thinks, it's what others at the venue do. Depending on the type of venue you go to, the vent or otherwise, you want to make a statement. If I'm going to a meeting with a client, a charity event or something where image becomes of concern at a high-end hotel or 5 star restaurant, yes I will show up with a statement car but if I'm taking a lady out or just having drinks at the bar alone, I'd rather fly under the radar.

Valet's are a part of life when living in a big city like NYC. I live in a big city, not quite NYC big but large enough that parking takes 30 minutes (often more) to find, and a valet saves me that time and stress for a few bucks.

Kinja'd!!! Rico > Moves-Like-Senna

Kinja'd!!!1

Nah it has nothing to do with you, but I've seen this comment written on Jalopnik/Oppo before and it just confuses me because I don't care about valets and wish to park my own car. Here in NYC I avoid valet parking any time I can because I don't trust them.

I do know what you mean about a statement a vehicle makes though. Don't think that I was cursing at you I was cursing at the idea of being judged by a valet or onlookers when I give my keys to a valet.

Kinja'd!!! Moves-Like-Senna > Rico

Haha, I know a lot of people post about them here. I just used it since it's usually associated with nicer cars. I prefer parking my own car as much as possible but don't mind the valet but I've been lucky with my experiences. Usually it's not a car that I own but am borrowing which makes it easier, and if it's a statement car, they only pull it forward 10 feet or two to showcase it in front of the restaurant so I feel safe.

Hahaha, people judge way too much. It's why I personally drive subtle vehicles as much as I can. I don't need the attention.

Like I said in another post, I think I'd have to try pretty hard to decide "a Civic but better" is inherently a bad car.

If you like the Honda Civic but want something with more luxury, it's a very good choice.

It will NOT appeal to someone who wants to replace an Integra GSR... especially given the lack of a proper manual. I've known some people who were looking to replace their Integras... in one case, the BMW Mini ended up being their next car.

I don't really want to replace it. I'm a lot older. My requirements are different. My commute is a slog. I want something that's efficient and reliable and everything boring 90% of the time, but is also happy on a Hill Country road, those days when I have nothing better to do.

The Integra has been gone since 2002. Have a CRV now.

And an '82 Alfa GTV6. You know. For fun.
