Looking at the front-end of the Lincoln Continental er Copy-Cat ; I noticed alot of striginly similar design elements? What do you think.
Take a look at Bozi's post comparing the rear to the Audi Concept. Yet another "similar" design cue.

In my opinion most cars these days share several styling cues and it's hard to draw a new car that fits in the current automotive landscape without stepping on someone's toes.

True, but there's a difference between stepping on someone's toes and stomping on both their feet. Not saying Lincoln is doing the latter - that's more the Chinese knock-off territory.

I figured they took the grille from Bentley's Hunaudieres concept car
It is an old body style, on an old concept, on an old definition of what luxury cars should be, and likely for old people... so why should it be original?
There is no NEW-THINK about this.

Say what now?
![]() 03/30/2015 at 13:02 |

But is there anything original on the Conti?

Look closely at this grill. It is little Lincoln logos not the design of the K900.
There will be more than one wheel option. And I am sure they will all look like other wheels that have been offered before.
If you are going to chastise Lincoln for the side chrome at least compare it to the Aston Martin which is more closely related to the Continentals.
The headlights are Lincoln emblems Acura's are not

Hey, don't forget mine! ;)

I dunno, everyone bitched when they did their own thing and now they're bitching that they're not. Everyone just complains because it's Lincoln. If this were BMW everyone would be in their pillow forts in the dark making grunting noises over it.

The way the grill is shaped and set back not flush makes it very K900
![]() 03/30/2015 at 13:09 |
|
But the shape of the grille is similar to the K900's, you've got to give the man some credit for that at least.

It's beautiful.

I will give you that but I don't see it as a big issue Jaguar grills are set back too. It becomes prevalent when you look at a chrome grill on a Jag.

The K900 grill was said to look like the BMW 7 series. If there are minor similarities people will notice it that is how human brains are wired.

I rather admire GM's effort with Lincoln. With each new model that comes, a hope is seen in it as if it would take over the premium car segment and take 'Murriccaa's flag everywhere in sumptuous comfort, leather, technology, whilst packed within a flavor of Cuban cigars.

Uhh when has lincoln done their own thing? Not trying to be an ass, actually don't know what you're referring to. The Blackwood? Tire bulge on the trunk?
![]() 03/30/2015 at 13:39 |
|
The split waterfall grille, I don't know anyone else who had done that. I firmly believe people just hate because they're Lincolns.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 13:41 |

this is silly, so many cars on the market, who has a new car without borrowing ideas?
![]() 03/30/2015 at 13:56 |
|
Thats the point...Lincoln sure as hell is not innovating anything new!
![]() 03/30/2015 at 13:59 |

IMO a different grille on a Ford doesnt really count as "their own thing". People dislike Lincolns for the same reason they dislike Acuras. No one likes being charged more for the same product.

you say little Lincoln logos, I say sideways Denali mesh.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 14:05 |
|
And you last sat in or interacted with a Lincoln when exactly?
![]() 03/30/2015 at 14:23 |

The Detroit auto show. Also just because I'm that guy here is a direct quote from a friend who is a Ford interior designer - "Safe + chrome".
![]() 03/30/2015 at 14:24 |

Maybe if you look a little closer it will help. The angle is clearly there.
I love the new Denial BTW.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 14:53 |

I enjoy the denial too
![]() 03/30/2015 at 15:20 |

Edit Denali. If I was in denial I would have been far more hysterical.

In all fairness, KIA got started by building Ford cars.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 16:17 |

So are we going to start harping on every performance car that uses honeycomb or mesh?
Same style of grille? Yes.
Same grill? No.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 16:20 |
|
Same concept, different shape, different DRL, different relationship to the grille.
Are we going to start bashing cars for all having red or chrome taillights now, too?
![]() 03/30/2015 at 16:21 |
|
This is quite literally everywhere, and it looks way more like an Aston than a BMW.
We already bash cars for tacky fender-vent-thing-a-ma-jigs, so I'm not gonna both with this question.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 16:23 |
|
If you can't see how these are different, I don't think anyone can help you.
We gonna start bashing all of the sports cars with 5- or 7-spoke wheels now?
![]() 03/30/2015 at 17:50 |

Look at the small color matched indent in the lower middle.....very K900
![]() 03/30/2015 at 19:33 |

I'm not the biggest fan of the headlights (too Acura-ishor) the Kia grillee notch, it seems unnecessary. Other than that it looks good. Better be AWD though.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 19:34 |

Copying is pretty rampant in the auto industry. There are many examples of this going way back.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 19:52 |

But it's chrome on the Kia. And it has a twin up top. And the whole shape of the grille is different.
