89 LTD fuel pump?

So I found what looks like a good deal on a a really clean 89 Ford LTD wagon on CL, but the seller says it ran out of fuel and burnt up the fuel pump motor. So I'm wonder does it have an in tank or in line pump? Would I need to drop the tank to change the pump? I'm guessing the answer is, yes.

Well given that you'd be Coyote +T56 swapping it anyway if you get it, does a dead fuel pump really matter all that much?

My Taurus had the fuel pump in the tank, knowing Ford products that means this one is also in tank.

My 93 crown Vic also has an in tank pump.

It should be in-tank, but it may be accessible without dropping it. I wouldn't let it deter me from the purchase, just make sure the cost of replacement is factored in to the price

and the added cost of driving a truck to get it and a car hauler rental. I'm gonna do some research tonight and see if it's some I could tackle in the sellers driveway that'll save about 100 bucks if I can just drive it home.

You do need to drop the tank. Sounds like an easy fix compared to later ford models, though.
