Or is the 2nd Gen Skyhawk a very nice looking car? I'd much rather have a 1st Gen, but, despite the fact that they were basic transportation, I've always thought the 2nd Gen Skyhawk was a pretty car. Especially in 3-Door hatchback form. Its a shame that they're virtually extinct now.

I dig it. I'd never actually seen one of these until now.

Reminds me of a Starion.
Hatch isn't too bad. The others are pretty awful.

It's like this with popup headlights.

I prefer the Monza.

Cavalier hatch with pop up headlights. I remember when these were new and all the high school girls had a J-Body and Ford Escorts, with the occasional Ford EXP. All the bros had Mustang GTs and IROCs.

Yeah, I really only ever see them online. They've all succumbed to the Crusher by now, which sucks.

It's terrible thinking of cars being lost forever.

Almost like a subdued, FWD Starion without box flares. I can definitely see that.
The hatch and the standard coupe look pretty good to me but, yeah, the rest suck.

A buddy of mine had a Cavalier wagon in faded red back in the day. 86hp of pure fuckin' thunder.

I had an '87 Sedan growing up. Thing was a goddamn tank. Mine had the 90HP LL8 2.0 and would not care one bit if I drove it 11/10ths all the time.

Oh, I VASTLY prefer the Monza. But its in a completely different generation of cars. By the time this 2nd Gen Skyhawk came out, the Monza was gone, being replaced by the Cavalier.

I know :( I'm sure there's a few left out there, but not many.

Hell yeah!

holy blast from the past! My dad had a white turbo one when I was really young. Neat car.

TECHNICALLY they're flip down lights, but the core concept remains the same

Had a Cavalier of that generation. It was an unmitigated POS. Also smelled like cat piss from the PO. Gave it to my brother when he got his license and he proceeded to drive it into the side of a stopped train due to either brake failure or stuck throttle (don't remember which). Barely any damage (very low speed) but they still totaled it. Good riddance.

Oh, for sure. And sweet! I really haven't heard of many people having one, let alone a turbo.

Ah I thought they were basically the same car just dressed up differently.

his had louvres on the back. Killed it fording a flooded road in Garfield coming home from a trip to the A&P back in '99 during Hurricane Floyd. First time I ever "drove" a car was steering while he pushed.

Nah, you're thinking of the 1st Gen Skyhawk, shown above. That was the Monza equivalent.

Gotta love the louvers. And damn, that sucks :/
![]() 03/27/2015 at 13:21 |

Ah I see. Those 1st gens are nice looking cars. I'd love a v8 Monza.

Then there is the thought of "Cash for Clunkers".

Oh, for sure. I've been wanting a Monza Spyder for a LONG time. Except for the pain in the ass spark plug changes, they're awesome.

They used one of those for the leaf blower supercharging episode of roadkill I think.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 13:44 |

Indeed they did. I loved that episode. That was actually a pretty damn rare car they used in that episode. Not only was it a Spyder (which is already rare enough), but it had the 305/4 Spd. Combo. And it was all original.

Someone will probably fix it, they usually sell on their cars when they're done with them. The only real damage they did was to the interior and a hole in the firewall.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 13:54 |

Not really. It was still just a sky hawk. not like it was some rare sought after thing.

From what I've heard, they're going to team up with Bob Lutz and make it into a drag car for Drag Week. Which would be pretty cool.

It would, that said with the amount of projects those guys have on the go it might not see the light of day for a long time.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 14:09 |

Eh, I like em. They're virtually unseen these days, so, in my opinion, it sucks. Though it probably would've rusted into the ground or been crushed by now anyways, so at least it died with some sort of dignity.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 14:16 |

Yeah, good point. I'm just hoping that, for some random reason, they make that in an episode of Roadkill or Hot Rod Garage. Probably won't happen, but I can hope.

It could happen. They'll just wait until the thing has decayed another couple years first.
