Will Susie ever get to drive?

Williams has appointed Adrian Sutil as its reserve Formula 1 driver for 2015.

The German has been out of work since being dropped by Sauber at the end of last season.

In the wake of Valtteri Bottas's absence from the Australian Grand Prix, there was uncertainty about who Williams would use in the event of one of its regulars being unable to race.

Ugh.... I'd so rather see Susie Wolff drive the car. Even if PR factors into it, reserve drivers have historically done pretty poorly when called up to race, and it always seemed to me like having someone like her in the seat would be excellent for the sport and the team. What does the team have to lose? When was the last time a reserve driver was even able to score a point in a competitive car? Kovalainen couldn't score in the Lotus when it was the second best car on the grid, nor could d'Ambrosio or Badoer.

while Wolff isn't the best driver on the paddock, at least she has some chops at high levels of racing. She did do midpack in DTM, beating out Ralf Schumacher one year. And on her team she usually had the oldest car in the garage. She might not win the race or get massive points but I bet she helps set up the car and develop it so if they put her in, it might mean they are testing a part or something. And I would love to see her have a fair shot at the race. Her not being able to drive in Australia was a missed opportunity for the sport.

meanwhile, lotus hires a cheerleader and says their girl is a driver like Susie.....sorry, but no. Susie at least has some chops and could probably out drive 99% of us on here. Jorda?.....I doubt she could out drive people who regularly do track days and autocross.

I hate to say this, but thank god, I've missed those creepy shots of Becks during a GP weekend

Yeah, Jorda's career has been astonishingly bad so far. She's been last place in pretty much every race she's entered so far, even at the amateur level.

I really wish she could get a seat. If only some one would be willing to buy her a seat. If F1 is going to allow for pay drivers, why not use it for good?

I find it funny.

Sure, she's attractive, but she can't be the only pretty girl in the paddock. I wonder how she gets so much air time.

Is it a lone cameraman with a crush?

Is it a feed director with a crush that switches to her whenever there's footage?

It has to be a team effort.

Well the FOM is very sexist. They almost always show shots of attractive women in the paddock, whether they are involved with teams/drivers or not. I'm pretty sure that is the team's main reason for hiring attractive reserve drivers is so they get more airtime (How many shots were there of Carmen Jorda during Melbourne, even though Lotus was out of the race entirely)

I also really want to see Susie Wolff on the grid just so she can insist on having a grid boy instead of a grid girl just to even things out.

I'll admit, the only reason I ever rooted for Lewis was for the gratuitous shots of Nicole whenever he did well... No Nicole, IDGAF.

Sebastian Vettel - 2007 - US Grand Prix

He was reserve driver for BMW Sauber, subbed for Kubica who'd had a nasty wreck @ Canada. Finished 8th, grabbing 1 point.

Good call. Forgot about that. Sutil is no Seb, though.

Also, no limits on testing in 2007, so Seb would have had more seat time before getting in the car than any reserve driver since.

She placed dead last in her formula 3 car, got kicked out of the team, and then the driver they replaced her with midseason went out and won a bunch of races with the same car. So even with an equipment advantage, she was terrible. Jorda isn't a racing driver. She is a cheerleader/calendar pinup for Lotus F1. And I am prepared to say that if we both had stock Fiesta STs I could beat her in autocross or lap times on an open track. I might even be able to hold my own against her in wheel to wheel but I haven't done that so I won't completely shoot my mouth off.

Yeah, I've always loved that detail from her F3 season. I'm pretty sure that I would be able to outrun her in a normal car too, and I don't consider myself to be that fast, though some people I autocross with would probably disagree with me on that.
