I have a patch for the CG base in my town. I actually considered going into the CG. Kinda lost the motivation for it though.

I have an enormous amount of respect for what those guys and gals do. They go flying in weather that the other armed forces wouldn't dream of. And the rescue swimmers are an entire class of badassery unto themselves. If I were to join any branch of the armed forces, it would be the USCG. But I'm too old, and I don't swim that well.

As do I. I wanted to go into the CG because I didn't really want to go into the Army and get sent 5000 miles away. I also liked the prospect of being able to stay relatively local or somewhere like Alaska. I have slight athletic asthma which likely would hurt my chances at getting in which disappoints me, and I just became interested in other things. I always will respect the bravery of the Coast Guardsmen of our country. They do something many likely wouldn't and that says something.
