Oooh, Hungary!

The 2.3 was rather unloved as it combined the power of the 2.0 and the fuel bills of the 2.8.

I think this boils down to beliefs - I've been told the complete opposite of this by others. Anyway, the 2.0 V6 is weak for sure and the 2.8 is thirsty for sure (when i was a kid we had a 2.8 GL...), so on paper the 2.3 is the one to go for. Or, if you can live without the V6 sound, the Pinto 2.0 four. However, as we are talking about a hobby / classic car, I'd go for power over thirst on this one...

And yes, Hungary, that's where you find me.

The 2nd generation Granada (FoE) had the following engines:

2.0 V6 (Cologne) 90 HP

2.0 I4 (Pinto) 100 HP

2.3 V6 (Cologne) 114 HP (108 in early form)

2.8 V6 (Cologne) 135 HP

2.8 V6 with K-Jetronik 150 HP

And there were Peugeot / Indenor I4 diesel engines in 2.1, 2.3 and 2.5 forms, but only NA, Peugeot kept the turbo diesels for themselves (present in the 505).

If we're going really anal on this, there were 1.6 I4 and 1.7 V4 engines too, but I'm yet to see one on the street - the latter only one time on mobile.de

Oh, we never got the 2 litre V6 in Ireland, it must have been continental Europe only. Given that it had less go than the four you can see why we didn't get it.

Ford used to have completely different V engines for Ford UK and Ford Germany.

It goes something like this. Ford merged it's two major European operations, the British and the German arm in 1967 or so. When the first Consul / Granada was introduced in ~1971 it was their first common car in the category, but still manufactured separately, LHD in Germany, RHD in Britain. These versions used local engines too, Essex V6 in the British and Cologne V6 in the German, though some motors got into both versions. However, the 2nd generation Granada was only built in Germany, and so only received the German V6, and the common / American I4.

And yes, though i never tried the 2.0 V6, it is commonly said that the only redeeming factor is the smoothness.
