Lego isn't what it used to be. It used to be about a childs imagination. Now you pretty much buy a kit that will make from one to four different things if your lucky and they cost a fortune.
Even the plain regular bricks and odds and ends cost a small fortune.

They are actually cheaper per piece than they were in the 90s and 80s. They are more expensive over all because the sets include more parts than ever. Also, there's a larger variety of pieces in many more colours, so I think it's lending more to creativity than it ever did.

I don't know. Why I was young playing with them you really had to use your imagination with them. A plane was a wall of bricks and a few flat slabs sticking out the side. Now if a child wants to build a police station, they go and pick up the box with 'police station' written on and then assemble it. Maybe it's just my age and looking back on fond memories while others about my age are spending $200 on Star Wars Death Stars from dedicated pieces that as a child I'd of loved to of made my planes more realistic than some harlequin pixelated version it turned out as.

Yeah, I think it's cool, but not $200 cool. For $50 I'd be all over it. All the licensed sets are too rich for my blood.

The exception to the cheaper parts are these licensed sets. They are super pricey, since they have to play royalties and such.
Lego really lost their way 10-15 years ago, but I love what they're doing now. The Lego City sets are better than ever.

10 years ago or so I was saying the same thing. All those specialty pieces almost bankrupted them, too. Today they make something like 1/3 of the different pieces that they used to make, and the imagination has come back in a big way. The current Lego City sets are better than ever.

I want the Ferrari F1 kit...mostly because it has the UPS emblem on the side, and that makes me happy, haha. I work for UPS :P
