I knew a guy back in the day who swapped a GTI engine into one of those. Talk about the ultimate sleeper. First car I ever drove regularly was an 81 Rabbit 4-speed. God, I loved that car. I have since owned an 88 Fox wagon and an 01 Golf, all manuals. That pickup looks pretty tidy. I'd love to have it too.

Buddy in college had a diesel rabbit....... such an epic car.

I had one of these back in the day. It had a 2.1l motor built from a 1.8 out of a Jetta GLI. Tubular header, no cats, minimal mufflers. It was loud and fast . I kept it plain beige, and simplified it by selling off the alloys and putting on some 14" steelies with P600s. I would take it out to some of the main roads near me and blow away Porsches, BMWs and MBs and anyone else that thought they were quick. It was a one-trick pony, however - I never could make it handle worth a damn, and as a result it was only good in a straight line.
