When people buy new cars, do they have grand plans for a trip or a show (really anything for that matter) to celebrate their new purchase, or do they just go along with life as if nothing happened?

I've had some friends who will volunteer to take me out for joyrides all around town, no matter how far out of their way it may be. Yeah, people are excited to drive, but does it go any further than that? Are there any other behaviors or ceremonies around this event?

Do you have any "new car rituals?

I like to poke around in the engine bay and get under a car when I first buy it, get acquainted with its internals

I've never had a brand new car before (or even one less than 10 years old), so I'm crazy excited for the one I ordered getting built next week and will probably be borderline obnoxious about showing it off to basically everyone I know. Like Ricky Bobby "Kickstart My Heart" montage levels of excitement. I'm even planning on driving it back to NY for my little sister's high school graduation for maximal show-off saturation.

Also kinda related: my motorcycle mechanic jokes that you always get nails in brand new tires, so you have to do a big smoky burnout when you get new tires so they won't be "brand new" any more.

The dealer gets told that on arrival at the dealership the car gets PDI'd and stickers off for them to inspect the paint work then put to one side unwashed for me to inspect, the car is then taken home and given a full wash, decon, polish and seal detail (maybe take a day or two to do), then she's ready for the world. There's nothing more personal than taking a leisurely car wash to get to know all her curves and push her buttons.

Lol, I've had the XJ for almost a year and a half now and still haven't gotten around to *that,* and it's really not a priority since we have an entire house to ourselves. Most certainly NOT happening in the new car.

haha XJ is perfect for it. All about the adventure for me. I think it was more fun, coming out of 2 long term relationships that lasted almost 10 years total, that when I was a bachelor I would be not only figuring out how the car would do, but also seeing how adventurous my current object of affection would respond to it. Maybe that is why I am almost a year in with my current - all due to my vetting technique

Meh, I'm used to Bronco and Explorer levels of spaciousness though, and getting caught with your pants down by an officer who knows your mom is enough to kill most people's sense of adventure in that realm :P also I think the XJ will give us tetanus or at least a nasty rash from the various auto fluids all over the trunk area.

I got caught in my Bronco 2 by a female officer (I was 19 or so), when it was having starter issues.

What are you guys doing? How old are you? Get out of the parking area - it's closed at sunset!

me- Uh, can you help me pop start it?

Sure get in Ill push

Add oil, coolant, and replace the cardboard on the floor to soak up all that fluid. Ritual, necessity, same thing lol :]

Lol, nice. Luckily for me, it was at a beach and the officer was more concerned about people getting high than getting laid, so we just got told to move along.

Every time I get a new car, the first album I listen to while driving it is Kate Bush's "The Whole Story", because it happened to be the first album I listened to in my first car.

Give it a wash to familiarize with the bodywork & paint so I'll know any new damage moving forward, then put in on the rack at the shop for a good inspection (though ideally this happens before purchase). Then, I like to daily drive it to establish trust while I make up my list of things it needs before taking longer trips. I'm currently going through this process with my Fairlane.

1 I get a pack of coconut scented little trees, and hang one on the mirror. I did that the day I got my first car, and I've done it with every car I've had since.
