Only reserved to 80's detectives and Boat Captains? Or are they good?
My stance is that there is nothing wrong with it, sometimes it gets cold here during winter and there is nothing better.

I think it's dated (probably more like '70s), but if you want to rock it, go for it.

not my cup of tea, but it isnt a bad look. I just feel if you are going to wear a suit rock the whole thing with a tie, even a bolo tie! Hahahaha

Unless you're enjoying a cigarette on the way to the local art gallery, I would stay away from the turtle neck and suit, as it looks a little affected, in my opinion. Now turtle neck with a nice set of trousers and a jacket, a little better, but still pretty 1980's. If your neck gets cold, just wear a scarf and save the uncircumcised sweater for when your not wearing a suite/sport jacket. Just my 2 pennies.

I'll echo some sentiments:
It's a bit of a dated look. But what's old is new again, hipsters, and blah blah blah. If you like it, give it a shot. I wouldn't wear it to a job interview, but if you're going out for some fun and want to dress up, why not?
I think to pull it off, you need to have a two things going for you: Pretty good physique and a suit it that complements the look. Turtlenecks don't hide much, so you need to be in fair to decent shape or better. Also, the look seems to work better with what I'll call an interesting suit. I wouldn't wear it with a plain black business suit. But it seems to do a lot better with tweed/wool.. even Mr. Burgundy's blue velour suit. I think it's because a turtle neck is VERY plain, so you need a more interesting suit, something with some pattern and/or texture to it to jazz things up.

This one depends highly on three things: the style/fit of the clothes in question, your physique, and your confidence to pull it off. I saw a guy at school here in France the other day wearing an extremely well tailored double breasted suit + turtleneck the other day and I just thought "daaaamn that guy looks good".
So if you have a thin or athletic build, clothes with impeccable fit, and your usual style/attitude is consistent enough with the "look" so that your friends won't go "what the hell are you doing?" I say go for it.
Lacking any of those three things, you'd probably look more like a weird old guy/Ron Burgundy unfortunately.
Also it goes without saying that the right shoes are a must.

Needs more gold chain.

Second your thoughts on the style of suit. I saw a guy rocking this look with a gray double breasted that suit that had a small windowpane pattern, and it looked fucking impeccable.

I went to high school with a guy who always wore turtle neck + dad's sport coat + chain to high school dances. He did not dance with many ladies.

No shit? Please say you smoke filterless. Or at least roll your own. That stereotype would probably cause the world to collapse if you did that. Citroen + Filterless cig + brown suit + black turtleneck + art gallery = does not compute. overflow error.
[Full disclosure: I luvz me some art galleries]

That sounds awesome. I love interesting suits. Any hack can go anywhere and get a generic 2 button. But show me a nice 3 or 4 button, or a double breasted suit, and I'll show you someone with class.
Also, since I started really getting into shotgunning last year, I have developed a love for wool & tweed, and you can find some dapper stuff on eBay for cheap. I got a Pendleton tan wool shooting jacket with leather elbow pads and shoulder pad for $35. I have some olive slacks that go perfect with it, just trying to find a nice pair of balmoral loafers to wear with it on my next outing to the gun club.

Pipe?! You seriously (and I mean seriously, not being facetious) must be the most interesting man in the world.

As a 5' 8" person I laugh at the notion of a four buttoned suit : P
Love the classic sportsman look, especially since you actually rock it while shooting. I haven't really worn jackets as day to day attire, but it's something I've been considering getting into. I just bought a nice jacket in January; it's cut somewhere between a suit coat and a blazer, but it's made of the sort of nylon material you might see in a really nice rain jacket. It sounds a bit strange before you see it, and I was skeptical before I tried it on, but I really like the look and so does my girlfriend.
The real test will be to see how well it's received when I come back to the US. If I can wear it there without people thinking I'm being any more obnoxious than I usually am, I'll probably buy some more.

A turtleneck and a suit seems a bit silly to me, but a turtleneck with a sport jacket can look OK. Especially if it isn't an especially thick neck.

I don't know about turtlenecks....
But if it was a tactilneck.....

I can barely dress myself and I don't wear men's suits that often so feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but I'm generally not a fan. I would just go with a nice scarf and suit and tie if it's cold, but you do you :)

I know this Picture was taken in San Francisco. If Steve McQueen walked uphill on taylor street, he would take off that coat, It's steep! But People still dress like that in SF to look cool

I'm 5'9 and if I used to wear a 4 button, but I was also 40 pounds lighter. It might look silly on me now. But if you're in shape, it's a great look, especially for short-to-average guys, it makes you look taller.
My company's dress code is relatively lax, just a button up and nice pants, so I usually do a patterned shirt and khakis or casual slacks. My shooting jacket works well with a couple outfits I have, so I wear that sometimes. I need to find myself a sport coat thats a little more versatile that I can wear this spring when the weather is cool enough to warrant a jacket, but not enough so to require a winter coat.
The jacket you have now sounds nice. I say rock it here in the states. You can always tell people it's "European," they will either think you're very stylish... or gay.
