You really can't go wrong with a used Volvo 850 Wagon. I've got a 96 850 Turbo Wagon and not only is it fun to drive, you can embarrass SUVs with how much it can hold and it's pretty safe on top of all that.

If she's willing to pay to keep it running it wouldn't be bad. If she wants something a little more care-free these two would be less risky.
