24 liters. 450hp at 2500RPM back in 1918. 1933 race versions produced 1300hp for land and water speed record attempts.

Kinja'd!!!

The engine is most famous for its use in the Naiper-Railton. The car that set the speed record at Brooklands back in 1935 at 143mph. Top speed of 170. No front brakes.

Kinja'd!!!

Don't know what is scarier, a 4500lb car airborne at 140mph+ or the location of the spectators.

What does this beast of an engine sound like? Here ya go. The original racers of the 30s were out of their natural minds.

This is so awesome. I love early land speed racers, these guys were out of their minds.

What I respect about the guy who owns the red Napier-Bentley is that he drives the crap outta that thing. Big HP+2 wheel brakes= Code Brown!

I've used that full video twice now to perfectly drown out my trust fund hippie housemate bitching to his wife through the wall, I believe about someone hurting his feelings, again.

I seriously hear things such as "this like, completely ruined the psychic readjustment from elder Mike yesterday we need to meditate again or someth..."

Just trying to get dressed and start my day in peace, the vid redeemed it. Thank you.

The old guys make the youngsters of today look very tame. The idea of driving that back in the 30s at speed with no safety protection at all is just mind blowing.

The amazing thing is that the engine was without peer for almost 20 years, from 1918 until the late 30's. DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, aluminum block...so advanced it almost seems strange to read the specs on it in hindsight.
