Stuck on ice in the rain

As I was getting ready for bed last night I heard a sound outside my window that over this winter has become something like the adhan for the snowbound northeast - the high-pitched, throaty whine of rubber flailing helplessly on ice. The temperature was a balmy 40 degrees and this weird liquid form of water was falling from the skies, yet this man in his crappy front wheel drive Rendezvous was having a hell of a time extracting himself from a downhill-facing parking space. EDIT: Put your headphones on for my stupid narration. Things really get going past the three minute mark.

How many times did he hit the car in front?

I'd be so fantastically drunk in that case.

with so little traction, rather than pushing it up hill I'd have thought pushing the front just out into the street would be the best answer

Tough to say, but he definitely hit it a couple more times before I started filming. That's actually the reason I bothered to record, I was thinking he was really going to smack it one time.

Looks like a Taurus, so the owner might not care too much. But does look like he got a good few taps in there.

The problem is that the wheel on the street side actually has traction, so it can't be pushed side to side. When he finally got out you could see the curb side wheel had dug a perfectly shaped rut into the ice. It was basically on a fixed track.

It still amazes me how automakers still make cars that aren't smart enough or advanced enough to stop spinning low traction wheels like that. How much more would a car cost if the OEM put a really low end LSD in the diff. I understand to buy an LSD off the shelf it can be pricey but they already spend the money to put the open diff in there in the first place.
