!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has been on the ropes for some time now in one form or another, but it's still sad. They were responsible for a lot of my early computer gaming memories from the '90s, including one of my favorite games of all time.
I'll have to fire up the old Windows 98 SE machine this weekend and dig out the CD-ROM. I've spent countless hours in this game, and look forward to many more.

EA tends to ruin those studios it acquires.
I just hope that never happens to BioWare.

I knew the colossal fuck up that is the new Sim City would eventually kill the studio. This is what happens when you stop giving a shit about what your customers actually want.

Just to clarify - the main Emeryville studio where most of Maxis' most iconic games were developed is closing, but Maxis itself will continue to exist as an EA division with their 4 other studios.

Electronic Arts, where game studios go to die...
I loves that I got to fly around cities I created. Sigh, at least the Wings won.

Full Tilt! Pinball and 3D Pinball for Windows were published by Maxis, but developed by Cinematronics. It is still an awesome piece of Maxis history.

Streets of SimCity was glitchy, but fun.

ah, i guess that's true. I thought it was co-developed by them.

I believe Cinematronics became Maxis South after they were bought by Maxis in 1996, a year after Full Tilt! was released (1995). I believe Cinematronics was mostly on their own before that.
