I've had this thing for years, but I've never known what it was for. I got it with a computer repair toolkit.

They're just locking forceps. The idea behind it was probably just to plug in and remove small bits on a board.

Either that or to clamp wires together while soldering.

IS THAT WHAT IT IS???
Damn that would make soldering much easier.

I have almost the exact same ones I use for fly fishing but I imagine they could be used pretty easy for wiring too.

Here's the clamp I have for that purpose:

The correct name for those is a hemostat. They're super handy for a lot of different jobs.

And surprisingly common .
(I updated the pic to one that has forceps which more closely resemble yours.)

those are called needle holders. Surgeons use them to hold the suture needle when sewing. They are not a hemostat or a forcep. How do i know? I work in the OR. Use these everyday

Hmmm, all this time I thought they were nipple clips.

I pick up used ones at the computer swap meets for a buck or two each, and since they are surgical tools they usually have the name of the hospital etched in them. Lots of variety in the designs, but not being a doctor or nurse I have no idea what the technical names are for each type. Very high-quality stuff, but I hope that they were properly sterilized before being sold.
