looks like the crank shaft decided fill in for the drive shaft. Also, can we all agree that it is a drive shaft and not a "prop shaft."

A prop shaft would have to be attached to a propeller.

I've seen propshaft used by some for torque shafts on cars with rear transaxle as well, even in some cases in which the person would normally use the word "driveshaft".

I have seen it used in that sense too. Still wrong in my opinion. I think it is a British thing.
