Here we have an 1895 Panhard. May not look innovative but Panhard introduced a layout which many of us still find in our cars today, the Système Panhard. Engine at the front, gears behind that, rwd.

Engine in front and gears on the driver's side with FWD is the Système PT.

It's interesting to note, however, that after WWII Panhard made its bread producing no Système Panhard cars for the public at all that I'm aware of, rather longitudinal FWD.
