I was prepared for the worst - the major news outlets around here made it sound like we were in for a terrible ice storm yesterday. I stayed hunkered down inside the command center, drinking beer and sleeping. I got up at 5:15, got ready for work, go out, and its not bad at all. There was about 1/4" or so of ice on everything, so it did take about 20 minutes to clean off both my and my wife's cars (I was trying to be a nice husband, even though her work is opening 2 hours late). And then I had one of the quickest, easiest commutes I've had in a while.

Frozen car pic from TTAC because it amuses me.

My driveway down in Springfield was a god damned skating rink (and has a pretty decent grade). Fell on my ass twice while cleaning the cars. Roads were totally clear though.

22153 also checking in. I also busted my ass 50 times trying to get the trash cans out last night.

I also live on a hill and waked across the street last night to return something to a neighbor, and walking across the street was like was swimming across the river. I ended up one house over.

Ever seen tire dingleberries?

Nice, I didn't take a picture but both my cars had ice fender skirts. I think maybe they dream of being hypermilers.

Hope your ass is OK. 50 times is a lot of ass busting!

Also, love the tire dingleberries!

I parked next to a curb, and there was already a bit of old snow piled up there. This morning it was iced over so it was almost impossible to clean the car from that side, I ended up standing on the other side of the car and reaching across to clean the entire windshield.

You're right, though, roads were great. My apartment complex did an admirable job trying to clean out our parking lot last night (usually they don't start doing anything until about 9 AM). And our building is off a small connector road between two main thru fairs and it gets plowed/treated last. So there were a few ice spots on it, but 123 and the GW Parkway were both fine.

I had to regain my balance every other step. I had no idea how few level, paved areas there are around the house.

Hands out, baby steps. Full on ass-busting prevention mode. It was no joke.

Sounds like it. Glad you didn't get hurt. I have to say, weather like this is one of the few things that make apartment living OK. I don't have to go out and deal with trashcans and recycling and all that stuff, and sometimes they even salt and/or plow!
