If Lotus say so. Ten bucks says that she doesn't even appear in the car for the young driver's test.

Likely not, she'll probably be training on the team simulator for the most part this season.

I am not female bashing. But, here career results don't look to good for an F1 seat. For the sake of females in motor racing I hope she isn't just a pretty face bringing money to the team.

I wish Simona de Silvestro's Sauber ride had worked out. I think she definitely has the talent to race F1.

I fear that she got hired to be a fashion model for the car and just pose on it like a model or something. Basically to be a cheerleader. Or she has a LOT of sponsors behind her. Or both, it might actually be both.
As long as she isn't used as a swimsuit model and "spokesperson", then good for her and lotus. I just want more Susie Wolff (or Simona De Silvestro!) and less Danica Patrick marketing squad. Patrick isn't absolutely awful but the "OMG HOT WOMAN IN CAR" marketing......bleh.

Seriously, smoking hot. What is she gonna end up being the Ronda Rousey of Formula 1? (that would be freaking awesome, btw, a new woman driver in formula 1 who is a ringer???)

Carmen Jorda, huh? Let's do a quick GIS:
Good lawd, I just went all 2014 F1 front crash structure...

She is damn sexy but any of us are probably better drivers! It didn't look like she did too good in the lower classes.

What series has she been in previously?
For the record, I have never even been to a single seat open wheel race, nor a NASCAR race for that matter. While I love the sport, simulator time would most likely be wasted on someone of my very low caliber.

"female driver"... So crass.

she was in gp3 and indy lites I think, but she ended up getting like 28th 29th or 30th in gp3 last year. So she really doesn't deserve a F1 drive even if it is just sim work.

Are you an American? If so, how do you follow these minor series? I have a hard enough time keeping up on F1. (Usually record the races and watch them much later, I am currently watching the Brazil GP from 2014 right now. Adult responsibilities are tough.)

I'm American, I don't follow these series at all! I just read an article about her on motorsport.com. I do the same thing with F1, I record it than watch it as soon as I wake up, the only bad thing is I cannot look at anything on the computer or my phone otherwise it spoils the race.

It's so damn interesting to me that there aren't more female drivers. The physical is definitely manifest, but there are technologies to mitigate that. What drove me out of driving as a hobby was the mental piece - laying it down *exactly* in the same line, in each curve, with the same timing, *every* time, at the limit of friction, or you're off the track. In 50 laps I ended up feeling spent, but I knew others that could handle it just fine. The thing I came away with was that it wasn't sex related - just brain related.
Ok - so maybe females don't have those kinds of brains. I dunno. Personally, I'd like to see more.

There has been some scientific study that shows that men are more likely to take risks than women are... the old "Fortune favours the brave" adage. You could make an argument about how that may be part of the genetic make-up of a successful F1 driver. However, there's no reason to believe that a female who starts racing at a young age wouldn't be able to develop that ability.
