So my wife an I were leaving for a doctors appointment. Someone got pulled over in front of our driveway which is pretty normal but the back up unit was an Un-marked and tinted infinity. It had red and blue LEDs behind the grill and in the sun visors and had strobes in the head lights and tail lights. Looked like some sort of higher-up in the police department was driving as he wasn't in the same patrol type uniform. Also had plain jane Illinois plates

I got pulled over by a Lexus SC once. God dammit

I've always preferred the Miami-Dade Police's unmarked cars.

I've seen some unusual undercover cars. I wonder if they just use seized cars sometimes. I can see a drug dealer in an FX.

Probably seized in a drug bust.

the hell? I have never seen that in IL.

That's exactly what it is. My locals used to have a Corvette that they stole from a drug dealer to show how crime doesn't pay to kids as part of the DARE program. It always seemed to me like crime paid, just primarily the police.

....seriously? shit. and I though the ford edge we had around here was strange

Yeah its the first time I've ever seen an unmarked or marked police car that wasn't a Ford Dodge or Chevy here in IL

Oh yeah I'm sure this thing was seized considering the town I live in. Without a doubt

That's sneaky! It must've been seized in a drug bust or something.
Off-topic: Is your first name Mark by any chance?

Yeah that's what my wife and I were thinking

Whoa, POV personal car maybe?

Why would they need a backup for a regular traffic stop? Especially one like that?
We shouldn't have unmarked cars with public plates

the yellow Tercel the New Haven PD used to run was probably the weirdest, or the late 70's conversion van with out of state plates my town used to run

Well in Matteson and surrounding towns it's protocol for 2 units to show up for a routine traffic stop. the area I'm in isn't the greatest. And this wasn't a routine stop. They pulled the driver and passenger out of the car and we're handcuffing them and one of the other officers was starting to search the car that was pulled over. And as I was turning off my street a 3rd unit was pulling up too

At first glance I thought that white car was a SW20.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 16:51 |

Ummm... how do you know it's a routine stop? How do you know the guy in the FX wasn't something like a drug squad guy who was just surveilling the vehicle and saw the occupants commit a crime?
No matter why he's there, if you want the cops to cut down on the amount of force used, the easiest way to do that is to ensure they have overwhelming numbers not complain that a second unit shows up on a stop.
Sampsonite24 said the FX had "plain jane Illinois plates", not public plates.

That's so sneaky! Here "unmarked" cars are still marked (e.g. white text on white or black text on black charger) so you won't ever catch them but they're still marked. The infiniti is completely out of the blue

Z30 or Z40?
![]() 02/24/2015 at 17:22 |

z30 SC400, in green. I couldnt believe it

That is crazy, but it's better than a Z40, IMO.
Irrelevant Short Story: A former employee of ours was driving home from work once and someone in a Camry with blue/red flashers tried to pull her over. She did not stop and drove all the way home, her husband was waiting for her in their driveway, it was not a real cop, they drove off. Obviously they called the cops afterwards, apparently there was a group of guys doing this and robbing people at gunpoint posing as police.

wow yeah that is scary stuff. I got pulled over and there was a marked car right behind him so I knew. Didn't do shit, was just making sure I wasn't buying crack due to the neighborhood I was in. I was just getting some real deal Columbian food at this spot in the GHETTO. They told me to GTFO of there. I actually had 2 people get shot on that street I know so I could see why

That's crazy. I can understand then, why there was an unmarked SC in the fleet. I can't blame you though, I've gone to some pretty shady areas for some truly authentic cuisine before.

yeah man, if you ain't living you busy dying.
The Jamaican food in Hartford is worth it too. I used to only go with my boy Big Kev, I usually got left alone with him in tow

Matteson, eh? I used to live down that way (Mokena). The GMC dealer there had the best service department.
I've seen some weird cop cars in IL, since they do allow the use of regular plates for cop cars (they call them "soft tags"). The state cops used to have a silver Grand Prix GTP, and a dark green XJ Cherokee, both totally unmarked. The town I grew up in had a 2-door S-10 Blazer.

Yeah arne bauer gmc/cadilac just finished getting remodeled. It's super nice. And Mokena's Chipotle is far superior to Matteson's haha

They always took good care of me. They were willing to do things under warranty, when other dealers told me to pound sand (the dealer in Tinley Park was TERRIBLE).

The police chief for Wisconsin Dells drives an unmarked white Camry with full police lights.
