Haha, great story. The 535is was 'special' alright (cynism-alert): Air dam, spoiler, sport seats, BMW-valved Bilsteins. Those were the only difference with a 'normal' 535i. LSD was still an option (which this one clearly misses).

All origional all #'s matching right down to the shocks.

With that mileage I would hope the shocks were replaced at one point?

0905 Special Inspection Demo Car, this is the one that is super special, near as I can figure it was an end of run car used by engineers for driving impressions.

Once again: classic! Why, I repeat WHY, would engineers want to have driving impressions of a car that's end-of-life? #905 means 'Special Control - Demo Car', as far as I know this just means it had an extra check at the factory because it was some sort of (dealer?) Demonstration vehicle. And WHY would this fact increase the value of a car anyway?

Rims are 2 piece wheels that were delivered on the M535i which was only sold in europe and Japan.

The M535i did exist in Europe (not sure about Japan). But the wheels don't even come close. Pathetic.

I don't see any price (except for the additional engine) but I like the ratty look. You wouldn't need to worry about any shopping cart accidents in parking lots. If it would decently priced I wouldn't have any issues buying that one.

this was for sale last fall for $1700 OBO- moving out of state, etc. the pictures looked like the same car, just not in front of the trailer park it was living in at the time.

there were no such "enthusiast" details in that listing.

Good point. I wanted something RWD to practice getting sideways in already. It's already $2500 for the engine so I imagine the car is at least worth double the engine.
