Kei Miura does some cool stuff but FD RX-7 looks better without widebody. There are some good looking widebody FD's though.

I respectfully disagree, this kit gives it an incredible stance in my opinion. But that yellow one is tasty too. I guess I just love RX-7s. :)

Rocket bunny RX-7 doesn't look bad. It just doesn't look as good as non-widebody RX-7s IMO.

so in my mind... those rear fender flares are way too racecar for this. they would be great on an actual racecar, but here they appear somewhat tacked on.

IMO the "tacked on" aesthetic is part of the race car aesthetic, and part Japanese car scene aesthetic. They might've been drawing inspiration from bosozoku cars.
