So as most of your know, I got into an accident with my FoST. Brought it to the body shop today, to find 5600 in damages. While it's in the shop, I get a rental via my insurance. This pulled in as a return as I was getting to Enterprise and they hooked me up with it, as it falls under my daily limit. BMW 328i (4 cyl turbo w/ 8 speed auto) xDrive.
God. Damn. I'm in love. It's fast, even compared to my FoST, super comfy, and it's a rental best of all, so I can hoon to my heart's desire, without breaking it. Since I'm traveling for work, I'm also stoked that theres no mile limit.
I've also learned I have no self control, as the first thing I did was hit a very very fast speed on the Long Island Expressway.
I've decided that once I get my FoST back, I'm likely going Jeep shopping. I just can't deal with the roads in the areas I'm driving anymore, and am likely going to be SCREWED with insurance now. I need something durable, yet small (2 door). My policy had me listed as living in Westchester, which I no longer am and had to let them know, now that I'm back in NYC the price goes up, combined with 2 accidents in a year. We'll see what my final decision is, and I know im taking a financial hit no matter what.
Wrangler's the cheapest vehicle in america to insure, and I can get one in manual. More than likely used.

I didn't know the Wrangler was the cheapest vehicle to insure. Do you know why that is?

Will it go into reverse at 20 mph?

Parts are abundant and really really easy to replace apparently. I've read numerous articles about it. Forbes included. American too, so parts are made here, no import taxes and whatnot.

Good question. I like the way you think.

Not sure where I was reading it.. I think it was either Road&Track or Car&Driver... but there was an article on the Wrangler, and how it was one of the shittiest cars produced, yet people still bought it. Great off road, but really poor everywhere else. Never been in a new one though..

The new (er) ones are nice. I'm looking at an 09 or something. My buddy has a 2014 Rubicon Hard Rock 4 door blah blah $40k one that's amazing. Sucked to drive, but that was in Denver and above where there's no air anyway.

hate to ask for specifics, but what's your limit on daily rental reimbursement? i thought i had a good policy and mine was only 35/day. which got me into a fancy charger... with cloth seats... after i paid an additional 25/day on my own.

All good dude. 100/day, with 2500 limit.
Admittedly, the policy/ car are in my father's name. Since im 24 (not 25...) car insurance in NYC sucks for me but not him.

THANK YOU. There's so many people telling me to suck it up, but it really wreaks fucking havoc on cars! I've lived here my whole life, and my father's camry had to have the front suspension redone every 15k. Mom's Matrix somehow (sort of) lasted to 120k(WTF?!) but even our family mechanic was scratching his head at that one.

thats got the softest suspension BMW offers on any of their F30 3 series. Still, the engine is a gem.

I believe it. It rides like a goddamn dream compared to the bricks that my FoST rides on. I am having a blast with the handling though, Rear based AWD is a treat. And I'll say it, BMW is good at turbo 4's...

I remember hearing the 8 speeds have launch control. My last 320i loaner didn't. You should test it out and come back to me. Also hold down the Dsc to completely turn off traction control and then put it in the highest sport mode. Pretty sure that puts it in sport plus. Hoon at your hearts desire.

Love these things. Got one through zipcar a couple months back and was blown away by the torque. Also, very composed in the corners.
