Man, that's a tough question. Someone asked me today at work what my "dream car" is...and I couldn't give them an answer. I mean there are just too many to narrow it down to one. I went over the usual suspects like F40, 2000GT, BMW 507, 250 California, McLaren F1, etc. and then kind of backtracked from beauty/speed with a custom 70 series troppie or defender 110...I couldn't settle. I went with this because it was on the "dream car" list longer than most.
So what about you? could you nail it down a single "dream car"?

Yes, the day I buy my 2600 Spider my life will be complete. The 2600 is my only real goal in life.

There are a lot of cars to narrow it down to, but the Esprit S4/S4S is on that list :)

There can be only one! The choice is easy.

Bear with me on this...
Because I think most of those on my list I would prefer to look at somebody else's. This I could use evey day if I wanted to, the handling and build quality is actually Clarkson-approved as "not bad", and its 0-60 time is still respectable today.
However, if you mean a dream car free of all the worries that go with it, I'd have an F40. Because F40.

I love my Z but my dream cars are totally unattainable! Dreams!

Nice, they're extremely pricey here in the UK because of rarity and running costs, so it'd take a lottery win for me to own one.

I totally dig that idea. One of the cars on my list that didn't get included is a lancia fulvia...for that reason.
Just look at that little guy...awww.

I like these too, especially in Zagato form.

No need to justify a dream car, its the car that makes you happy just thinking about it, price not an issue (low or high)

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I've always hated the flak that the C3 got. It is, and always will be, my favorite generation of Corvette.
Oh man, that would be incredible. Do want.

I hate it when people ask that question - it's almost as horrible as when people learn you can speak another language and just go "say something in it!".
A dream car isn't a single object or even one that stays constant over time. And then there are different kinds of dream cars - truly unattainable dreams, cars you dream of having soon, cars you know you won't be able to buy soon but dream of having someday...for most car enthusiasts I'd say they'd easily have at least 5-10 "dream cars".
Right now I dream of buying a E39 M5 - it just seems like the right time for it to be an attainable dream for me soon (prices decently low, not too rare just yet, and any later it'd be too old a car for somewhat regular use). I know the best time to buy a Z3 M Coupe passed a while ago (same as E30 M3 - they were so cheap when I bought my E30 325i!) but I dream of owning one some day. I also dream of owning a early 70s Alfa GTV - but probably a far less attainable dream, more out of the reality of their age and rarity and usefulness than outright price.
This thought process is making my brain hurt and is giving me a sad. Sometimes dreams are better left as dreams, and maybe they'll come true someday. Logically thinking through them often times makes you realize it'll never be anything but a dream.
On a happier note, someone at my work drives a Lotus Esprit similar to that picture and parks it on the same floor of the garage that I do - I think it's parked there long term-ish for storage, as is someone else's classic 911 kept under a cover. Often times I leave my car there overnight as I take public transit to/from work - so the 911, the esprit, and my E30 are the only cars in the garage past 7pm or so every night. If only they could come to life and sing their glorious songs and let them echo through the garage walls every night when all the other cars are gone....now that's a real dream!

When nice people find out I like cars, they ask me the same thing. I never really have an answer either. There are too many. I mean, at some point I think I'll be able to own a manual Gallardo, a Datsun 510, and a Mark IV Continental. But then there's the ones I could never afford: Group B Quattro replica, Cobra, Testa Rossa. And then there's the cheapos, which I still dream about owning: Miata, AW11, Festiva rally car, and after today's NPOCP, a DTM-inspired, widebody Mustang. Too many.

Right now for me - it's hard to say but I really really would want a Challenger Hellcat, in white over red interior, with the matte bronze wheels. Yes please.
Honorable mention: Jaguar F-Type V8R Convertible

There are entirely to many variables to nail down one dream car. In my mind, I have a dream rally car, dream daily driver, dream exotic, dream classic, etc. But out of all of them, one car stands out (but only just): 1966 Shelby Cobra. MkIII. Hell yea. But like I said, it's only just above my next dram car, 1984 Audi Sport Quattro.

I've had the same dream car since I was 9 - Escort Cosworth. I'm a practical guy - secure 4WD, seating for 4, easy access hatchback rear and an engine that can take up to 400hp before any real modifications need to be made. And relatively affordable. And just as I said that, prices have risen once more.

Going all cliché here, but Pagani Huayra. Just because every time I look at a picture of one, I find myself struck by its perfect statuesque appearance. Also, active aero ftw.

That, only if I could also drive it with old Dr. Steel type welding glasses and a top hat.
