Because earlier today I noticed some clicking when Braking at low speeds, Accelerating at low speeds and while going over speed bumps. I inspected the Tie Rods, CV joints and bushings, they were all fine (surprisingly) then I realized I was missing a screw on my driver side center cap. I went through my photos on my phone (this is why you photographically document everything) and I realized it hasnt been there since I got new tires. Then I remembered the shop guys at discount tire telling me they had trouble understanding how my center caps worked. How much you wanna bet they stripped that screw just left it off and didnt tell me. Man, I hate discount tire. I guess tomorrow I'm going to Ace hardware for a new screw, lets hope the hole isnt stripped as well. Hopefully replacing that screw will remedy the clicking noise.

PSA: Dont inspect the underside of your vehicle on your driveway in the middle of the night if you live in coyote country, its freaky.

Also I realized that I didnt clean up my Power Steering leak as well as I thought I did, there is still fluid caking hoses underneath and on the tie rods and CV joints. I checked the pump, there is still plenty of fluid and no leaking around the new house or steering box, so I think its just old fluid mixed with my old oil leak and melted snow. I think I'll give my truck a top to bottom cleaning after I replace the passenger door.

Im tempted to buy a tire mounter and balancer just to be able to avoid these idiots. They are ASE certified Techs for christ sake. I'm just a dude that knew next to nothing before I bought my truck, They should know better than me.

Just saying, that would be a colossal waste of money.

And I'm pretty sure you don't need to be ASE to work at a tire shop.

The same noises were driving me crazy last year ... Turned out I hadn't put my centercap back on tightly. That was a relief!

I've thought about it, but I'm nervous about it. At least if the idiots who mount a tire screw up, I have recourse. If I screw it up, there goes a tire.

I'm sure majority aren't. They should have a manager that is, seems to be the case in most of these shops.

From my experience, they're usually only trained in oil, tires, basic stuff, etc. Nothing major and no ASE certification.

here's the odd thing, we have people that don't do proper procedures getting the jobs, and the guys that do, experienced guys, often get ignored. It's hard for me to get employed in these shops, they ignore me a lot.

That's so damn true.

What I've seen is that if you want employment at that type of place you have to have an imperfect drug record, no experience with cars, and a couple felonies to top it off.

to put up the ASE sign, you only need 1 one guy. Then all the jokers in the back do everything.

My dad is an ASE Master Mechanic he has his own tire machine and balancing machine at his shop, he's the only mechanic. You need a shop like that.

I had Belle Tire ask me how to lower the spare on my old Blazer once. (04 4 door, so tires underneath) Seriously. There's a hole in the bumper - stick in tire iron - spin.

oh yeah, that reminds me. The detailer I worked at (not the VW dealer) had low income guys a 15 minute drive away, they knew jack shit about cars, there occasionally there was a guy who showed off his primered civic and always revved the shit out of it when he came by. lulz were had.
