After a lot of thinking, I have finally decided that RIT is going to be the right choice for me. I want to thank everyone for all of the support in making the decision last night, I really can't even describe how much of a help you all were. I'm going to make the call today to give them my deposit (you know, since the deadline is at like 4:00, nothing like waiting till last minute). But once again, thanks to everyone who offered guidance and support in my decision. You all are the best.

Do it.
In 1996 I was accepted to a special six-year program at RIT which I didn't do; I would have had a BS in Computer Science and a JD (law degree.) I was an idiot.

I wasn't around last night, so I missed the discussion. But congratulations and good luck! What are you planning to major in?

I don't know if you factored in the fact that Pittsburgh is a much bigger and nicer and more prestigious city than Rochester.

Does RIT have carburetor department? I cannot think any other thing besides carburetors when I hear Rochester.

I visited RIT for the same purpose when I was looking at schools a few years ago. Their program was top notch from what I saw during the visit.
And they have freakin' tunnels to get around.
Good luck!

My girlfriend's brother goes there and he loves it! I've heard it's a great school.

Never forget, just because you pick one school doesn't mean you have to stick with it for 4-5 years. Plenty of people transfer because they feel it's best for them . Nothing else matters but what YOU want to do and what you feel is best for YOU.
Personally, I graduated from SDSM&T (South Dakota School of Mines & Technology) and couldn't be happier. In the end, I had one manager at Caterpillar tell me that "having engineering classes and covering your bases isn't the best thing for you. The best thing is the fact that you have experience (internships and co-ops) and engineering degree, which means that you know how to learn. That's what hiring managers in engineering want. "
At my job so far (graduated in May '14), I have used maybe 50% of what I learned in school. What helped me though, is I knew how to get information and how to learn for myself. That'll take you a long ways. I also urge you to take a look at internships, not just co-ops. They aren't as long, but they are an excellent (usually summer, but fall and spring happens as well) job that gives you experience at a company or field without having to get in too deeply.

And if automotive engineering doesn't work out for whatever reason, RIT has an excellent Packaging school, which can lead to an exciting and rewarding career in a field that no one seems to realize exists (and is REALLY hard to offshore)

Congrats I hope you find yourself with a god crew amongst their talented Formula SAE team. An RIT grad friend told me they have politics, like any other fsae team so assert yourself if you're a better, lighter driver in the face of fatass older members who try to pull seniority.
Also remember to take regular trips into town/ the SUNY campuses to get laid.

Ive had multiple family members go to SUNY schools and I live in a town with a SUNY school. You don't need to tell me how these are.

Abouts a billion of my friends went to SUNY schools, a bro of a friend as ever in Rochester's (Potsdam, is it?) comes to mind. Heh still acts like he's in college, bangin' lines off random bar bimbo's, livin' the dream but really that's more representative of all of Rochester unless you're going to RIT. The Artsy one my graphic design friend went to near the city (Cobleskill?) got him all kinds of artsy laid by artsy ladies swooning over rugged upstate men.
Alls I'm saying is I was there, man. To reap the benefits. And my ex gf did go to SUNY Cortland. EX...gf

Purchase is down by NYC and that's an arty school. Bridgeport is closest to Rochester I believe. Potsdam is not even close to RIT, Lol.
Cobleskill, where my mom went, is in the middle of fucking nowhere and is an agricultural school. Trust me I've been there. Oswego, where I live but don't plan on going to, is a lot tamer compared to some.

Purchase an Bridgeport! Got em both. Damn I really wasnt paying attention. I certainly visited Purchase enough. My friend who works with horses went to Cobleskill, wonderful woman. Purchase seemed like a pretty sweet dead esp if you come in with a car.
