sadly this is a function of Kinja, and not an element. it would be like an extension that blocks out kinja posts...I think there was something along those line once. I remember there was a workaround to see not iphone news on gizmodo once, something like adding Not?=iphone to the end of the url or something and it would exclude those tags.

So you're saying that you DON'T want to read about the woman who slept with her dad multiple times?

Sexist.

Gawker: Okay, I guess. Gizmodo: A bit crude, but fair, kinda. Jezebel: Wut ? Lifehacker: A bit small market, but the most appropriate of them all.

FWIW, I also don't want to hear about the guy that slept with his mom.

You might want to try a lighter touch with these people. one persons "putrid bile" is another persons "important issue" (used loosely). Just let them know that if Jez insists on using graphic titles (it will continue) that they be included "after the jump" or something. Lumping these titles together across all kinja properties does no work filters any good.

That's the version after I edited it for a lighter touch.

The note isn't to the Jezebel author, but to the person who compiles these headlines for sharing across Gawker. "Basest human behavior" is what much of Gawker was based on, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised...

I actually like those. Sometimes they have some interesting articles from elsewhere in the Gawker-sphere. If not, I ignore them.

Woman who was abused by her father and is now sharing her story to help others.

Fixed that for you.

I have a hard time calling it abuse. She was an adult, she fully consented to the acts, she was not intoxicated/under the influence of a substance. While I think it's horrible that the father had sex with his daughter (and do agree that he is more at fault than her for the transgression), I think we need to save the word "abuse" for other scenarios.

She may be over 18, but she is still his child, and he abused his parental responsibilities in taking advantage of his child. That's why it's considered abuse by the parent or more mature party in GSA situations.

Like I said, I believe he is more to blame for the transgressions, but I don't consider this "abuse". I haven't checked, but I'm willing to bet that the law wouldn't consider it abuse, either.

Consent was given by two adults. Did he abuse his position? Yes. Did he abuse her? I don't believe that he did.

I know that exists, but honestly, it sickens me that Gawker is okay with actively promoting stories like this one.

What if the headline was "'Sexual Intensity Like Nothing Else': A Chat With a Dad About His Daughter"? As a father with a young daughter, just writing those words out makes my blood boil and puts the desire in me to find the guy and physically harm him in some way.

I know that Gawker is a business and clicks and pageviews are profit, but where does it stop?

....It's still awful, either way you phrase it, I'm not sure why you think I'd be more ok with one or the other. Every time people post about the annoying "popular on kinja" thing, I put a reminder about private view because a lot of people don't realize they have that option. For whatever reason, Gawker gave this woman the outlet and audience to share her experience with abuse. It's an ugly topic, like many on the evening news nowadays. Shedding light on this stuff does help others realize it's not right (especially if their abuser has been gaslighting them into thinking it's OK) and get the help they need.

I wasn't trying to imply that you'd be more okay with the other, but I can imagine the outrage would be much worse if it was phrased the other way. I refuse to read the article, just like I refuse to watch the videos of ISIS beheading captives. I know great evil exists in the world, but I have no desire to hear the graphic details or see the graphic images. If Jezebel's intent was to bring a story of abuse to the public, in order to help others in similar situations, they could have chosen a much better headline... The one above seems to be almost glamorizing this type of behavior (regardless of what the article might say about it).

I owe you an apology, I was browsing private view earlier and noticed that "popular on kinja" is now mixed in there without opting in. Sorry for claiming to have an alternative that doesn't work :(

No apology needed, but thanks for mentioning it. I prefer visiting the Jalopnik and OPPO (and Giz and Lifehacker) main pages anyway. It's just the nature of the Gawker beast, and I know this. Thankfully these are absent from OPPO... I wouldn't think that a huge media company like this would willfully offend some of their readers and give them reasons to leave their entire network, but what do I know?
