and it still hurts. I still remember that day like it was yesterday.

I still remember seeing this happen on TV going - no way people hit harder than that all the time.

I couldn't comprehend it, but it's all about the way he hit, not the dramatic-ness of the crash.

I remember watching it happen when I was 7 years old. So dramatic and sad. I think it was what turned my family off of racing for a while.

I was 9 and i couldn't comprehend that he died. He was my childhood hero, they weren't supposedto die. I couldn't sleep in my room for days after since I had a wall covered in his stuff.

That is rough man. Jeff Gordon has always been my driver, I'm glad he's been so successful and survived. I'm definitely going to try and go to a race this summer for his last full season and trying for a pit pass to take photos.

I luckily got see him race in 99 and 2000. My grandpa and I went to the Vegas race both times. Plus in 2000 I got to see the only year SR and Jr ran together

I went to a ton of races and meet n' greets when my dad was really into all that and I was a kid. We went to practices at Indy, Charlotte, and a decent portion of the Midwest tracks. I have all his old negatives of pictures he took and got signed as well as some that got bought/used by the teams. Also a veritable fleet of hotwheels stock cars. I've met so many drivers but Gordon and JR have stood out as great guys, never got to meet SR.

Of note: A running joke in my family is that we have Tony Stewart's nuts. My dad got a set of used nuts off a wheel from one his pit crew at a race.
