I can't get them off. I'm thinking about cutting them off and replacing them with a reproduction set of Ram Air manifolds. I mean, just look. There is no room with these cheap things to fit any wrenches or anything.

PB Blaster, a mallet and a breaker bar.
Also, golden rule: 5 minute break for every four letter word you say while wrestling with the car.

If that won't work, I've heard that the French used to get amazing results removing heads. They used something called a guillotine?

If I followed that golden rule I would never get any work done.

The secret to success right there.

That's not the problem. Look at the picture. The issue is reaching the bolts the tubes curl around them and I can't reach them. The proper way to remove headers is to pull the engine.

Bottoms up approach? Not sure. My 5.7L headers are very easy to get off with everything in place.

Wait. What happened?

Headers are not worth the effort.

German swears are way more than four letters long... and I tend to curse in German or French.

So because broken logic, you got screwed over. Things like that shouldn't happen. I'm sorry your parents have failed discrete logic 101.
Even my dad, who is a bit of an arschloch at times, wouldn't even stoop to that. But the difference is I moved out, and now I just get crap because I own four cars.
As long as you know it's not your fault, do your best to ignore their rants.

Hey sorry to jump in the thread here but I have a battery question for you re: Mazda3. So on Monday my Mazda would not start just did the click-click-click. Jumped the car and ran fine. This morning did the same thing, click-click no start. The car has always struggled with super cold starts like 14 deg or below. It's a 2010 so the battery is 5 years old, so I'm thinking just replace it. Unless you think it could be something else. Keep in mind my GTI is coming in a few months so I'm not trying to drop all kinds of money on this thing, just looking for a quick fix to hold me over.

I would bet its just a battery. Go for the highest CCA battery that'll fit, Mazdas tend to undersize their batteries. Every one I've had has struggled in cold weather.
