Simple. You make it into a 3 wheeled AWD 2JZ-GTE powered beast. You register it as a home built/kit car. You're going to need a front clip cut around Between the door and the rear axle.

You see, there is no legal way to federally federalize any car in the states. But if you modify it into a 3 wheeled motorcycle, yes you can. For this, we will use the formula of the Polaris Slingshot. No matter what someone says, it's basically a car cut after the door line and tubed it up, and added motorcycle bits to The Back.

If you want to carry out my plan, import a "parts" car, aka one cut after the door and before the rear diff. You want the harnesses and all the sensors on the back. Put the car on a jig when you get here to keep the rigidity. Tube up the car as well as the underbody. use the rear end of a Polaris slingshot for the ability of it to fit a car sized rear wheel on the rear assembly. Weld it together with the help of a whole tubular structure. Connect the axle with the rear end. Connect the ATTESSA sensors to the rear end. Remove the RB26DETT. Source a 2Jz-GTE (emissions). Source the emissions legal cats for those involved as well. Connect them all together with a modified 2JZ GTE harness.

Now, you have a Nissan GTR (well, 3/4ths) that cannot be seized by anyone, can pass a smog test, have some serious fun on the track, turn eyes everywhere you go, still enjoy your JDM 90s interior, and have 2 turbos. It does not resemble anything behind. It's a tube framed GTR. and it gets its own VIN. This is not a modification. This is a re imagination. It's still AWD (well, kinda). Enjoy!

Californie law states: A "home-made, specially constructed, or kit vehicle" is a vehicle that is built for private use, not for resale, and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer. These vehicles may be built from a kit, new or used parts, a combination of new and used parts, or a vehicle reported for dismantling (junked) that, when reconstructed, does not resemble the original make of the vehicle that was dismantled.

A specially constructed vehicle (SPCNS) does not include a vehicle that has been repaired or restored to its original design by replacing parts or a vehicle modified from its original design.

Example: A Volkswagen "Beetle" with modified fenders, engine compartment lid, and front end, but still recognizable as a Volkswagen is not considered a specially constructed vehicle.

NOTE : The registration requirements for kit commercial vehicles are the same as for specially constructed vehicles.

There is not enough crack in the world to make a project this crack pipe a reality.

Wait.........you said "or a vehicle reported for dismantling (junked) that, when reconstructed, does not resemble the original make of the vehicle that was dismantled."?

Just replace all the damn body panels to made it not "resemble to original make of the vehicle" and voila!

No need to settle for 3 quarters of a GTR lol

but...if I change all the body panels, it requires a lot of bodywork bits no one wants to do.

True. Its a ton of work either ways.

I was trying to point out that if you're going to undertake that much work, you might as well do so in a way that doesn't alter the car mechanically - because its mechanics is why its coveted in the first place.

but the original design of the chassis still exists.

It talks about resemblance without clarifying whether this is in reference to visual resemblance or mechanical resemblance.

So I assume this would be acceptable?
