Hello all! As I have just been granted authorship, I find it important to introduce myself. I am a pre-med student studying Biochemistry at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. I have a love for imports and domestics alike, more ideas than money, and hope to become a bigger part of this amazing community. Here is a Fiat 124 rally car for your time.

As you didn't send $5 to my paypal account I am going to have to revoke your Oppo authorship. Better luck next time!

I'm surprised there are so many car lovers around here, the car scene doesn't seem to start until about 45 minutes out of the city.

Wait til spring, and head up Woodward, Gratiot, etc.
I've lived in NY and LA, Detroit's auto scene is the best and I won't hear any arguments to the contrary!

I'll make sure to do that! I'm living 2 blocks from Woodward now so that shouldn't be too hard

I'm also two blocks from Woodward, but a bit farther north :) what do you drive/plan to drive?

Currently driving my dad's slushbox-equipped Focus SE Wagon, planning on buying a beat-up 3rd Gen Camaro for a weekend warrior/drift missile kind of deal.

Hell Yeah Foc-Wag. Always wanted one of those with a stick...
3rd Gen Camaros are great because they take all the classic SBC stuff, Bad news is World Class T-5 manuals are garbage.
My recommendation. Go for a 4th gen 1993-2002 equipped with the T-56 Manual... 98+ get the LS motor (this is a good thing)
If you love the look of the 3rd gens, (I love the 80's TA's) get one, but maybe do a T-56 Swap.

I love the Focus wagon, but hate why it became my DD. As for manual transmission plans for a Camaro, I'm getting a little... unconventional. If I play my cards right it will have a Wilwood pedal box, Novak adapter connecting the SBC to the 5-speed out of a Chevy Colorado (Aisin AR5), and hydraulic throwout bearing to make it all work without having to fab a clutch fork pivot.

Hey! Another Michigan opponaut! Welcome!

uh... i have to ask why you'd choose to go that route? already have the AR5? and the camaro? the 93-97 Fb0dy T56 is pretty much a bolt in with an adapter kit
T-56 > AR5 as far as torque handling goes. Even the factory T-5 would handle more than the AR5
![]() 02/16/2015 at 15:59 |

As much as I'd love a T56, part-time jobs and full time school don't leave much budget for weekend fun cars, so $150 readily available junkyard transmission + $300 adapter plate > $1500 high mileage Tremec.

Honestly you'd be better building a WC t-5 the AR5 only handles 260ftlbs. even a very mild 350 would make 300+ you'd be replacing a lot of junkyard transmissions.
Not to mention that you can find T-56's out of 93-97 cars for about $500 around here...

I'll certainly look into a T56 if they are indeed that cheap, any direction as to where to find one would be much appreciated! I'm going off the reputation these transmissions have among the Solstace/Sky crowd, as well as their growing popularity with the Toyota guys as a replacement for work out R154s.

Sweet, another Michigan resident! Welcome!

Yeah, the torque curve of those applications is way different from a heavy, low end torque-a-plenty Camaro. my guess is even a basic 350 would scatter an ar5 the first time it hooks up.
I've had good luck here. http://www.parts-galore.com/parts.html
My advice would be to get a 305 equipped T5 manual car, and then build a 350 with Vortec heads. it's much easier to swap a block than it is to retro-fit a manual.

Thank you for the advice Travis! Once time allows the build and parts acquisition to start, I'm gonna make some sort of build-up series on it. Hope to see you around sometime.
