Wife's car threw a CEL code po456. Changed the gas cap. Didn't clear. I suspect it's the charcoal canister.

I hate this car.

Maybe, may not be. Get a diagram, test the evap solenoid, smoke test if possible.

So soon? My dad had the evap canister crap out on his Echo last year, expect a hefty bill if that's the case.

I've got a couple of other things I can try before I go that route but yeah best I can tell it would be about $500 parts and labor.

I can't complain this car has been bullet proof since she bought it new. only 66,000 miles. Barely broken in for a Toyota.

Nope, too old unless there is an open campaign. Unless you are in Cali I think they do 10 years/ 100,000 miles.

Yes the S trim. It's not a bad car, but it's getting to the point where we need to move on.
