Today's EFI engines are more powerful, more efficient, more environmentally friendly, and last longer with less maintenance. But they just don't have the same character as their forebearers. On the rare occasion you do get a glimpse behind their plastic shame covers you're often met by a boring block of metal utterly devoid of embellishment and character.
Take Ford Motor Company's regal 427 big-block for example:
Some one give that handsome summamabitch a high paying job.
When are you going to see this much mechanical majesty in a new motor in one eye full of a modern motor compared to this 426 Hemi?
And there's such a thing as leaving something to the imagination, and not being a prude:
Even if you're just working with one Holly 4-barrel like this '67 Camaro is.
Neither an airplane nor a snake the Ford's 428 Cobra Jet V8 is still a fancy gentleman.
This Chrysler 440 big-block with 3 Holly carbs is just nasty in the best possible way.
Guh... I need a smoke...
You can read and see more about carburetors !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or make my day and show me a modern engine with more character!

I'm with you, here's my 68 302 with a Holley 4 barrel.
And then with it's first (small) air cleaner, than the big boy one.

Plenty of EFI cars with pretty engines. Their being ugly is a recent invention since they all have plastic covers now.

Yeah, that's pretty good, but considering the price is of a Pagani is about a hundred times that of the cars listed above even in today's money. It's nice but it's not 100 times as nice, IMO.

I <3 cross rams. My dad had a 69 Z/28 with the Xram on it. Badass car.

Something about being able to rev an engine with my finger while I'm under the hood is an added plus.
Fuck those are pretty engines.....

How did I forget about the LT5? So fap worthy.

Hubba Hubba. Add some velocity stacks and now we're cooking with gasoline.

I think big old V8s are prettier in general, but I see nothing wrong with a fuel injected one...

Ford late model engines are pretty damn good looking

but webers
that reminds me i need to take a new picture with the filters on it

The LT4 looks like it's covered by an ugly plastic cover, even without an ugly plastic cover.

Is that an ITB setup on an M20? DETAILS!

work wont let me post it, annoying

Those are the only ones off the top of my head. Sadly after these the plastic cover thing became a thing. The Coyote engine looks cool but there is still plastic on it.
Something here where i work doesn't allow me to post images, add G at the end. The engines are Taurus SHO, Alfa Busso, and Viper V10.

You need an E Type.

Totally agree. My old GTO with 389 Tri-Power. (stock photo, not mine)

I'm a sucker for a set of SU sidedraughts. One is good, two is better, three is AWESOME:

Here's an interesting carburetor. Ford's Cross Boss Inline 4-barrel carburetor.
But mechanical fuel injection will make an engine even prettier. Here's a Matra V12 with Lucas setup.
And here's Porsche 3.0 RSR engine with Kugelfischer setup.

I know, I drove one not long ago. Glorious!

Porsche engines are like Uma Thurman. Don't look right or like anything else, but are still knockouts.

That's just a damn treat of an engine.

I'd really like to do ITBs on my Datsun at some point.
For Bemmers:
