Beautiful Austin Gypsy, these along with the regular Land Rover, the Belgium Land Rovers, the Minerva, the German Land Rover, the Tempo, the Spanish Land Rover, the Santana are all beautiful iterations all built from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) parts shipped around the world.

Italians have their own variants too, Iveco Massif and Fiat Campagnola.

Don't know the Trekka. If that was a license built Austin Gipsy there should be some resemblance.

I know but the Austin Gipsy had NOTHING to do with the landrover. It's a completely other car: steel instead of alloy, fully independent suspension, BMC 2200cc engine.

Not sure if you mean to say that the Austin Gipsy is an Austin built Land Rover CKD kit, because it ain't. It's an Austin developed car that shares much of it's lookswith the LR.

it was designed by the kiwis , but due to tariffs , they could import bare chassis & motors only and amongst all that , the Trekka was created

Ye', should of phrased it better, the Gypsy was the replacement to the Champ and were rivals to the Land Rover while the Tempo, Minerva and Santana were Land Rovers built under licence from CKD units with wheels, windows and some other parts sourced locally.

The Iveco is a much more recent thing and was built by Santana Motors prior to their demise a couple or so years ago.

Ah, that's right. That Champ was actually looking even better. From some angles.

The independent suspension made the Gipsy way more capable of speeding off-road when compared to the LR. Too bad only 20.000 were produced, not sure if a lot of them ended up in private hands initially.

I liked the Austins but my heart always belonged to Land Rover.

Some Austins made it into farmers fields but Land Rover dominated it in many aspects of use.
