We have from left to right:
- Mc Chouffe : a brown beer (8%) brewed in Belgium. I never tried this one, though I know the blonde one very well.
- Bud : I think it needs no introduction, though I've never tested one before and I wanted to try it.
- Pietra : a ambered beer (5%) brewed in Corsica.
- Cuvιe des Trolls : a blonde beer (7%), brewed in Belgium.
- Trappistes Rochefort 10 : it's a trappist beer brewed in Belgium (11.3%). It's one of 11 to have the Authentic Trapist Product seal.
- Edelweiss : a white beer (5%), which I think is brewed in the Netherlands

That Trappistes Rochefort 10 is AWESOME.

All the Belgian stuff is good :) Cuvee will have a few more hops than Chouffe.

Budweiser is going to be such a disappointment for you.. On behalf of Americans who drink good beer, I'm sorry. Though I guess Bud is technically Belgian owned.. hmph.

Wow they actually just call it Bud now.... Could they stoop lower? Just pour it in the toilet.

"After the 18 November 2008 InBev takeover, several cost-cutting measures that were implemented have, according to some sources, negatively affected the flavor of the beer. Whole rice grains have now been replaced by broken ones, and the high quality Hallertauer Mittelfrόh hop has been phased out. [8] A former top AB InBev executive says the company saved about $55 million a year substituting cheaper hops in Budweiser and other U.S. beers"
So it is in fact even shittier than I remember it....

It's for legal reasons.

It's in Europe. The Budweiser trademark in the US is owned by AB/InBev, and in Europe is owned by a Czech company. The same beer is sold in the US as Czechvar, thus Bud in Europe.

Ah, I see, I'm still not drinking it!

European Budweiser, the "real" kind, is actually fantastic.

The probably have it at one of the big stores here, I can see if they have it.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 13:45 |

Yep. Czechvar in the US. It's a Czech pilsner, somewhat like Pilsner Urquell.

I go to Japan a couple times a year and I seem to drink Japanese beer mainly now, I should go to BevMo and find some other stuff.

Oooh I love the Pilsner Urquell (I actually visited the brewery and tasted the beer straight from the ageing vessel. I shall try it then, because the american Bud really is tasteless.

It's so tasteless...

Real good yes. Not my favourite trappist beer though, I really prefer the one called La Trappe which is another trappist beer brewed in the Netherlands.

Yeah its for frat boys to play beer pong with.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:14 |

Yup. Quite tasteless. I had hope since it wasn't writtent Budweiser on it, then I learned it was the same thing.

Here we do that either with Kronenbourg (French beer, not the worst though but it's the same thing) or Heineken (which is a bit better than the Kro' but not much). I haven't drank either of those two in a long time, I always ask for something else whenever I'm in a pub.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:19 |

Don't think I've had that one actually.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:23 |

They're all pretty much the same thing.. which is weird because people will seriously fight over their favorite mass-produced beer's pride. Miller, Budweiser, Coors.. they all taste pretty similar. There's a place and time for drinking three, four, twelve of these beers.. like at the lake or golfing, etc.. pretty much any place you need a beer in your hand constantly and you mindlessly drink for extended periods of time. But casual Bud/Coors/Miller drinkers? those folks you need to watch out for, they're crazy.

If you have the chance to find one you should, it's really good, especially the Quadrupel (10%). Though I call it "treacherous", it's has a really soft taste, but at 10% alcohol it can be quite hammering. It's a bit like the Maredsous Triple if you have ever tasted it in this sense.
You might know it under the name
Koningshoeven
, as it was apparently sold under it in the USA.

I haven't drank one of the most produced beer in a long time. In France they are the Kronenbourg and Heineken beer. And whenever I go to the pub or a regular bar I try to drink anything else rather than those shitty beers, even if the alternatives are still mass produced (think Stella Artois, Grimbergen, Carlsberg or else), but if they have some nice beer, I'm so happy !

I'm in Norway so US names won't tell me shit :) But I HAVE had Maredsous Triple, it was somewhat like a champagne really, but with a long and somewhat sweet aftertaste, perfect match for a nice blue cheese.

First time I've tasted the Maredsous was with some sweet grilled Camember cheese, it was awesome and delicious (and to be faire I don't remember much of that evening, thanks to those damn pints).
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:33 |

Huh, grilled camembert.. I've never thought about that being an option, I'll give it a go.

Pietra is brewed with chestnut oil.
love!
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:42 |

What we did was remove some of the top, put some honey and chestnut in, put the top back on it. Then wrap it in aluminium foil and put it on the embers you've previously done in your bbq. Leave it there for quite some time while not forgetin to turn it. Eat with some bread (real bread not a loaf, ideally pieces of baguettes) that you will use to dip in the cheese.

I always found that interesting about it. Not my favourite beer, but quite a good one.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:45 |

That sounds awesome, I'll try that with some rye bread I guess.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 14:49 |

That's a good strategy. I don't mind stella, other than their sneaky 11.2 oz bottles we get over here, but I haven't heard of the others you mentioned. Always keep an open mind!

Stop trying to encourage me to drink by posting excellent Belgian beer. I love the stuff far too much.

beer!
Just got off work so that's as much thought as I have right now. Except I do know I like the Rochefort 10.

Please don't build your judgement on American beers, based on piss water Bud.

Oh I don't, I'd love to taste some beer from small American breweries. But I feel I had to taste a Bud to make my own mind on it.
