That's right, ladies and gentlemen - Battlebots is coming back to television!

Kinja'd!!!

ABC has ordered a 6-episode series to air this summer. It's being made by Whalerock Industries and the creators of the original BattleBots franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson.

In a change from the original Comedy Central show, the new show will not have separate weight classes for different 'bots - everyone competes in the same class. Also, the show is reported to have more of a focus on the backstory and the creators of the bots than the Comedy Central showing.

This is going to be awesome.

YESSSSSSSSS. I have a little plastic replica of Atomic Wedgie sitting on my bookshelf. Such a fun show, way better than Robot Wars ever was. And Bill Nye!

Oh, BattleBots is its own thing. I though it was the name of Robot Wars (US).

waaaay back in the 90s I was designing a battlebot with my friend Mark. We were going to name it Shining Jihad. It was funny. Way back then.

I never got to watch BattleBots on TV, mainly because I had no interest in robotics until it was off-air for years. I've been hoping it comes back, and look at that. I even have a book on building combat robots, which was utterly useless because there were no longer any competitions.

No weight classes? Fuck that.

It'll end up the same way as the old battle bots where one design (the wedge) trumps all. Except with only one weight class, it'll happen much faster because you won't have the varying weight restrictions to spur innovation.
