And the Configurator is up on Porsche's website!

I've been following the GT4 since the rumors first started. Everyone was predicting a price of somewhere around $110k with the 3.8. 30k under projected sticker is unbelievable. This car is a bargain.

This, or a F-type S coupe V6 6MT?? I really couldn't decide even though this would clobber it on the track.

After driving two different variants of the F-Type and a Cayman GTS I can tell you right away the Cayman is a much better sports car. The F-Type, however, is a better all around package (sports car, GT, etc). It would be a hard choice for me, but I'm in love with this new GT4.

oh I am absolutely floored by the GT4. I'm going to the Porsche dealer tomorrow morning just to see if it's even possible to get one, which I strongly doubt. These are going to be amazing cars. The F-type is great as well, but like you said it's more of an all arounder.

or even a z28.

Sure if your goal is track only, Z28 is the obvious choice. I wouldn't want one for road driving though.

Then again 90% of its performance comes from its insane tires.

true, $85k opens A LOT of doors. If I needed ONE car for street/track duty, fully loaded competition package M3/4 would have to be my choice. Might even have enough left over for a set of track wheels.

The F-type is a really nice option though. If I didn't need a backseat, it would be a much harder decision lol.

Go "build your own" with all the must-get options and you will realize the genius pricing scheme. Goddammit I love Porsches, but every time I configure one, I cry.

Funny that you should use Jeremy Clarkson.

This may end up being one of the purest road sports cars *in the Wuuuuuurld!*

But is it yet enough to actually get Clarkson to truly LIKE and appreciate a Porsche?

The configurator is up on Porsche's website. Mine came in at $95,000, which is $10,000 less than the F-Type Coupe R. Huge bargain. I'd like to see how it compares to the 911 GT3 and see which one is THE bargain of the century.

He does often say the problem with the 911 is the rear engine non-balance and that the coxster is the better platform.

But he still calls it the 'Coxster', and generally derides Porsches as over-blown, as well as deriding Porsche owners and enthusiasts, especially Hammond.

I just wonder if this car is enough (or if ANY Porsche will be enough, EVER) to make Clarkson just flat-out praise it as an ideal car.

Frankly, I like 981 more than over-powering Corvettes and GT-R Nissans, and overly-fancy and expensive Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other such vehicles that no mere mortal can really get the most out of, and tend to be objects of conspicuous consumption, despite their technical superiority, which goes largely un-used in many cases, and most drivers are not trained or skilled enough to control, which makes them dangerous, rather than rewarding.

981, even more than it's 987 and 986 predecessors, seems like an almost perfectly designed sports car that any driver with any amount of skill could get in, learn, and truly utilize most of the car's performance, and be rewarded well for it.

There are few cars I would buy, money no object, above a 981, to really drive the wheels off of, and get the most out of, rather than as a collector's item or "objet d'art". As a preferred driver, maybe an Audi R8, or a McLaren MP4-12C, (maybe a 650S, but I prefer the older front end styling, and it is still WAY over my skill level), or a 996/997 Carrera 4 as a year-round daily driver.
