Been playing KSP lately and running a space plane only campaign. This is my latest ship I've been working on. It's a little difficult to launch, but once its up and is at a decent cruising speed it flies incredibly stable, for what I thought would be a super unstable design. It went through 4 designs so far, and still has some bugs to work out. Considering making another plane just to launch this one like Space Ship one and White Knight one.

Ahhhh I love KSP. Running any mods? I'll have to post some of my stuff here when I get home. SSTOs are tricky, but they're really nice once you get a working one down.

KSP has some weird physics sometimes, do you use the Ferram aerospace mod?

Just a few part mods I can't recall off the top of my head, and mechjeb, because I am terrible at planning transfers and rendezvous. The trick I found for getting heavy SSTOs is to just add as big of wings as you can. I have two Delta wing transports for putting payloads in orbit, one is almost too big to fit in the hanger and handles like a whale, the other is about a quarter of the size and way more maneuverable but it requires more trips up to build a station. My next step right now is building a base on Mun then on to Duna.

I don't. Just a few part mods and Mechjeb cause I'm lazy.

I recommend giving it a go.. I can't play without it anymore, everything in vanilla physics is strange and weird.

Yeah if you're running stock KSP aero that works pretty well. I recently started experimenting with FAR but I'm not sure how I feel about it at this point. I personally like using mechjeb a lot, since I enjoy the design and mission planning aspects more than the piloting, although I will do an Apollo style lunar mission with no assistance every once in a while to keep my skills sharp.

Nice, how long have you been playing KSP?

About a year and a half now. I have over 400 hours logged on it, most of it idle time while Mechjeb does all the hard work. I just like building ships.

I've done a few Munar missions without assistance, but when It's a mission to Duna that's going to take a few years to complete I leave it to Mechjeb.

I'm still trying to get into FAR. I put it on my last heavily modded install before they went to beta, but I sort of lost interest in KSP for a while. My goal is to reach my current level of proficiency with vanilla aero (I have maybe 100-150 hours) in an install with FAR, Deadly Reentry, RemoteTech, and one of the mods that requires life support resources. What setup do you typically run?

Yeah, the only piloting I usually do manually on a typical mission are my ascent (not circularization), plane changes, any docking that's required, and landings if I'm using an SSTO.

Sweet! I've been meaning to get this game and Space Engineers. Looks like crazy fun

I've been playing since .16 or so, it's a wonderful game. If I occasionally feel good about myself, I'll go over to /r/kerbalspaceprogram where people post shit like this

usually I run FAR and Remote tech. but the last few hours have been playing vanilla campaign.
I use mechjeb but only for calculating maneuvers, I still perform them manually.
I don't play as much as I used to, so I don't think I'd have the patience for a life support mod.

Get procedural wings, FAR, and the procedural landing gear. It'll change your life and your framerate for the better. Also if you want a challenge get Real Solar System.

I can tell you just from looking at that you have B9, I am waiting for them to adopt the new Mk2 geometry as it would be really nice to mix and match the SP+ mk2 system and the B9 system. I see someone also mentioned Ferram. It really is a great help when it comes to planes as it uses the fuselage as a lifting surface too rather than just the wings. Also Procedural wings helps when you want to go bigger but not use too many parts.

I'll probably pick up farrem later today. You can somewhat mix and match mk2 parts with the new offset tool. The new offset and rotate tools have made building planes so much easier. I want to get Farrem though so I can play around with lifting bodies. I'm not as concerned with part count, because my laptop can handle ships of up to about 750 parts, and most of my builds are below 100, with 1 near 300 for my super heavy lifter, but that thing can probably take a class E asteroid to the surface without much issue.

Yeah, the new build options are amazing. My biggest issue now is with Unity and how many mods I have. It is so hard to wait for the new x64 windows client although I have my hackintosh dual boot up and running so maybe I will try KSP on that partition.

I am in a serious love-hate relationship with KSP. Every time I get a good setup working, some file corrupting glitch forces me too start from scratch.
Case in point: I had a seriously large and complex space station that I had been building and fueling for a while. I had attached two smaller landers to it, and two LARGE rovers. The Rovers were 8-wheeled, amphibious (inspired by the BTR-60), and could hover and fly for quite a distance (that feature was not inspired by the BTR-60). One Rover had extensive fuel reserves and solar panels, the other had crew compartments and a Mobile Processing Lab, they could dock with each other on level ground, and still had docking ports available for future expansion.
You can tell, I was real proud of this mission and its ships.
Well, I was preparing this whole giant station for a Hohmann transfer orbit to Jool, with a final destination of Laythe. Since this was my first attempt at Jool, I decided to send a small probe there first.
Fast Forward a bit; probe reaches a polar orbit around Jool and runs out of fuel, it was a crappy transfer anyway so I didn't even care. I prepared for departure on my space station when I noticed the probes orbit was shaking around Jool and acting funny. I 'Switch To' the probe, and the game goes black, nothing worked. I quit, reload the file, and EVERYTHING IS BROKEN! ALL THAT WORK! ALL THOSE DREAMS!!
Haven't played since, and I still pretty bitter.

Yeah that's the issue with the game still being in beta. I'm still hoping the fix the wobbles on long ships, I had a really cool station anchored to an asteroid, but it started wobbling and exploded, now all my stations are shaped more or less as a tight cluster of modules to keep them stable.
